An American-made Telecaster at a Great Price

An American-made Tele at an unbeatable price — that’s exactly what you get with the Fender American Performer Telecaster. Experience balanced tone and extreme comfort, courtesy of a lightweight alder body, maple modern C-shaped neck, and easy-playing 9.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard. Heat things up with an awe-inspiring combination of vintage-tinged sonics and modern output, thanks to a Yosemite single-coil bridge pickup and DoubleTap neck humbucker. On top of that, a push-pull coil tap accesses a whole universe of tonal textures, while Fender’s Greasebucket tone control keeps things from getting muddy. The American Performer Tele includes ClassicGear tuners for rock-solid intonation.

American-made quality at an unbeatable price

Fender's American Performer Series exists to do one thing: give you a genuine US-made Fender at an unbeatable price. The American Performer Telecaster gives you a great selection of cool Tele features, including a supremely playable maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, jumbo frets, Yosemite pickups, and Fender's innovative Greasebucket tone control. All in all, it's quite a potent music-delivery system. And it's made right here in the USA, in Fender's state-of-the-art Corona, California, factory. The guitarists here at Sweetwater are impressed with the incredible price-to-performance ratio that’s supplied by the American Performer Series.

Vintage-tinged tone with higher output and modern wiring

While the Fender American Performer Telecaster is teeming with vintage-tinged tone, its modern output and wiring give it a sound all its own. This Tele’s Yosemite single-coil bridge pickup features flat-staggered pole pieces, yielding a vintage tonal balance and amp-brutalizing punch. Beyond that, its DoubleTap neck humbucker is loaded with Alnico V magnets for a solid, aggressive sound. There’s plenty of tone shaping onboard, with a master tone knob, tone control with push-pull coil tap, and a 3-way pickup selector switch.

Greasebucket tone control rolls off highs without adding bass

Fender has fitted their American Performer Telecaster with their Greasebucket tone control, which rolls off highs without adding bass or affecting your volume. This is seriously cool, because it gives you explicit control over your tone onstage without your having to compensate for volume loss — making the American Performer Tele a serious tone machine.

Fender American Performer Telecaster Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • American-made Telecaster at an unbeatable price
  • Alder body yields a balanced tone with equal amounts of lows, mids, and highs
  • Maple modern “C” neck supplies comfortable playability
  • Easy-playing 9.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard with jumbo frets
  • Yosemite single-coil bridge pickup yields a vintage tonal balance and amp-brutalizing punch
  • DoubleTap neck humbucker serves up a solid, aggressive sound
  • Greasebucket tone control rolls off highs without adding bass or affecting your volume

Excellent guitar.

I got this tele as a Christmas gift, I've been playing it all day. It's easy to play all you need is a light touch and it sounds great. The pick ups are hot, and the tones and sounds that it's capable of are second to none. I would recommend this telecaster to anyone that's looking to get their first, or second it's a great guitar for the price.
Music background: I’ve been playing for 30 years.

The best series for Fender

Performer is by far my favourite series issued by Fender. I think it's bcause the neck size and feel plus the jumbo frets give to edge over the other series presented.
The necks feel beautiful on ALL Performer models with the rosewood variety possibly having the edge in total comfort and warm sound.
I have purchased several in the range and these Telecaster models , either in Aubergine(actually more burgundy wine really) or the Honeyburst Perfromer Telecaster rates high above all.
With this Aubergine variety the humbucker adds jazz warmth and with a bit of overdrive you get a vintage growl.
I'm not really a Fender person, like many others, but the level of comfort and sound from these is exceptional.

This thing rips!

I'm somewhat new to Teles, having been a Strat guy for a long time. But I started out with the Squier Classic Vibes and got hooked. I've been wanting something with a humbucker in the neck, since I always found the traditional Tele neck pickup pretty lacking. I tried a lot of options, and nothing really sounded right. Finally, I landed on this one, and it's a winner. The balance between the pickups is perfect - all three positions sound great, and all are useful. I play in a wide-ranging cover band, and this is now the only guitar I bring - it handles everything from classic rock to grunge to reggae to pop.

The fit and finish are as good as you would expect. The satin neck feels fast and comfortable and the rosewood is lovely. And the color with the flake/sparkle looks much better in person. Can't say enough good things about this instrument.

Great guitar for jazz, blues, classic rock

I've had this guitar now for a year and a half, and it is still my favorite guitar. The quality is impeccable. It plays nicely. The neck is great. The tones are telecaster, a but a tad more mellow. It's not a high output guitar, so metal heads would probably want to look elsewhere. But if you are a blues, jazz, classic rock player, this guitar provides a wide variety of great tones, from sharp telecaster bridge sounds to almost strat-like in-between to a mellow humbucker (almost jazzy) in the neck. Takes pedals well, because it is very clear. Nice mix of vintage and modern. The only issue is that it does not hold tuning all that great. Getting the intonation right took a bit of work with the vintage saddles, but it's totally doable. I didn't get it set up by Sweetwater, so if that is a concern, have them do it for you. I enjoyed doing it myself.
Music background: Intermediate hobby musician, have played off and on for 40 years, mostly blues & jazz

Not expecting this.

I picked up this guitar not even 24 hrs ago and I am bursting with excitement. I stayed up very late playing and a lot of it unplugged!
I originally got a pro2 in sunburst/rw neck. I sent it back. Oh it was a fine guitar. It just felt and sounded.... mm off, how is that? I mean it didn't say to me I love you and am glad you are my friend. It didn't sound very much like what I have heard in telecasters. Primarily the spank was weak. The neck not quite right for me. It just didn't fit me. It's cool, not a dig on the model. It happens.
I'm sure not an authority on Teles. I am mostly a Strat man and own a few of them. A lp and others but this Telecaster is full of spank an I could hear it on the first note. I had to break out the instructions to make sure I was using the humbucker. It puts just the right amount of meat on the plate and the tones with the pull pot are very distinctive from each other and I could go on and on. The most pleasant surprise is how dang nice it looks. The Aubergine (red to me) is so nice and the neck is lightly figured evenly on the bass and treble sides and all the way one end to the other. I don't know if they all are like this but I had given up on a Figured necks from Fender long ago. I have a 90 am std strat that is like this. I haven't seen it a lot except on the ultra's and CS.
Even better it is less exspensive than a pro2 (standard). I think the tilt neck is a plus and thi model doesn't have it but it doesn't need it to be set up properly like a strat. IMHO.
Music background: Lifelong player.
