Plate Reverb Pedal with Key Sidechain Effects

Catalinbread takes an extremely thorough, thoughtful approach to every pedal they make. Case in point: the Catalinbread Talisman Plate Reverb Pedal. The Talisman reproduces the lush, natural-sounding magic of a 7' x 4' vintage plate reverb in a tour-friendly pedal format. To do so faithfully, Catalinbread included the studio-style side-chain effects that made the original units so useful and natural-sounding. The Talisman can be powered by any good-quality 9V–18V DC power supply (not included), and it features Highpass, Time, Pre Delay, Mix, and Volume controls, all supported by a tough metal chassis and a rugged footswitch that are ready for the road.

Made in the studio, not the kitchen

Catalinbread spent time in a studio with a vintage EMT140 to make sure they got the Talisman Plate Reverb Pedal right. The Talisman's Highpass control rolls off low frequencies gradually, keeping the signal from becoming muddy, especially when you're chording or playing with a great deal of distortion. The Pre Delay knob sets the lag time between your pick's stroke and the reverb's onset; helping with the clarity of staccato playing. Pre Delay can even be set high to produce a slapback echo effect, making this pedal even more versatile.

Even more topside controls

In addition to the realistic studio side-chain effect controls, you get a Mix control (from 100% wet to 100% dry signal) and a Time control that lets you dial in everything from a short "small room" tail to nearly infinite reverberating "fog" (accessible when you slide the internal switch to "Buff"). And of course, there's the Volume control, which is still active in buffered mode — making it possible to use the Talisman as a global volume control for the rest of your pedalboard setup.

Gear that makes you want to play

The self-avowed gearheads at Catalinbread focus on making musical devices that they want to use themselves — "gear that gets us excited and inspires us to play." The result of that authentic focus and unwavering integrity is the type of innovation that isn't market-driven; Catalinbread creates its own market for products players love, whether overdrive, delay/reverb, fuzz/distortion, or tremolo/modulation pedals (many of which are available at Sweetwater). The Talisman Plate Reverb Pedal is a powerful example of Catalinbread's commitment to exciting, inspiring innovation.

Catalinbread Talisman Plate Reverb Pedal Features:

  • Reproduces authentic giant plate reverb in a tour-friendly format
  • Studio-style Highpass filter control and Pre Delay included for a true plate reverb effect
  • Internal Buffer switch and Mix, Time, and Volume controls provide even greater creative control
  • All-metal chassis and high-quality true-bypass footswitch for long-lasting performance
  • Powered by 9V–18V power supply (not included)
  • Made in the USA
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!

Reviews

Catalinbread Talisman Plate Reverb Pedal
Excellent Plate Reverb pedal! Have not fully experimented with all it can do, but it is very versatile. It was recommended to me by a seasoned blues musician and it has not disappointed. The pre-delay knob is pretty amazing as you can set the lag time of your pick attack to the onset of the reverb. It can also work as a slapback echo effect. Very versatile pedal. Still exploring all it can do!!!
Fantastic!
First off, I'm not a reverb-on all the time guy. I find most amp reverbs have too long of decay and can sort of cloud things up. I run this along with the Catlin Bread Topanga set for a longer splashy reverb, which I use more rarely. I usually set the Talisman up with a a bit of pre-delay and fairly short decay. So, it's almost like a slap-back but with a beautiful trail of ambiance following the notes it. I hear some Rush 2112 for sure, though that's not my goal :)

If you want longer lusher settings, it is also fantastic for that and still sits nicely with your signal. My first unit had an issue and, after some trouble shooting with the internal switches, I contacted Catlin Bread who got right back with me. I was told the unit was probably defective. After sharing this info with Sweetwater staff, the sent out a new unit right away. Highly recommended!
Best plate reverb
This plate reverb sounds great where ever you set it. This will never leave my pedal board. Thanks Joey marano my rep. Thanks Sweetwater
There is no better Reverb for guitar players
I only write reviews when I think it's helpful. I own many of the big boy reverbs. Big Sky, Blue Sky, Wampler, Boss, TC, Keely and more. I use my amps for distortion and most don't have an effects loop. Creating a huge challenge for reverbs in front of a distorted amp. I have no idea how I ever lived without this pedal. The Reverb is perfect and useful under any conditions, front or loop, and anywhere in the chain. You can break all the rules. Turn the tone knob all he way up and it sits perfect in front of a gained-up amp. Keeps its character when the volume is pulled back for cleaner sounds. The pre-amp and boost are absolute perfection. Especially at the end of a large effects chain. Brings your signal back to life and improves it. The boost and pre-amp are lushus. Makes your amp sound better and are still on when bypassed ( if you set it up that way). So smart! also has one of the few usable pre-delay options. Doesn't sound weird when turned up. Adds a bit of delay to the verb which still sounds right unlike other pre-delays I've used. Ohh and of course the plate reverb itself sounds amazing. easy to use and dial in. This pedal is a gem and so useful, it could be your only reverb pedal and you wouldn't be missing much.
Great reverb that works well in front of an overdriven amp
This is my 4th or 5th reverb pedal and the first one that really works well in front of an overdriven amp. I haven't put in an effects loop yet, but I'm sure it will do well. What's nice about this pedal is it does one thing and one thing only very well and that is a solid plate reverb emulation. Most pedals try to do multiple things on a acceptable level, but this one nails the one thing it was designed to do. I've had numerous Catalindbread pedals and they all work great.
Music background: Been playing, building amps and pedals since the mid 70's
