An Extremely Versatile 5-string Bass!

The Yamaha TRBX505 5-string bass guitar brings versatility, killer looks, and amazing performance together in a complete package. This sleek-looking, great-sounding bass gives you a comfortable Yamaha body shape and a fast-action bolt-on 5-piece maple/mahogany neck with a smooth-playing rosewood fingerboard. A pair of humbucking pickups delivers hum-free sound while powerful active electronics let you optimize your bass for different playing styles. Factor in the Yamaha TRBX505’s solid hardware and thoughtful design, and you’ve got a great-looking bass that’s ready to rock any stage or studio session.

Comfortable body with progressive styling

One look at the Yamaha TRBX505 5-string electric bass, and you know it means business. A deep cutaway gives you clean access to the higher registers for soloing, while the pronounced upper bout provides balance (and looks cool). The 5-piece maple/mahogany neck has a comfortable and fast-playing profile. The TRBX505 sports a precision fitted neck joint that contributes to the instrument's clear, punchy tone. And the straight string pull of the headstock offers improved tuning stability and reduces overtones. You’re going to love the way the TRBX505 looks, plays, and feels!

Humbucking pickups deliver massive bass tone

Yamaha loaded the TRBX505 with a pair of custom-designed HHB5 humbucking pickups. These pickups house Alnico V magnets and two pole pieces per string for big, open tone without any hum. On top of amazing pickup tone and performance, the TRBX505 has an extremely versatile set of active electronics so you can be ready for any gig. It starts off with an active/passive switch followed by a 3-band EQ, a balance control, and volume. The EQ lets you sculpt the perfect tone for live gigs and studio sessions. No matter what kind of sound you need, the Yamaha TRBX505 5-string bass can get you there in seconds!

Best bass I own

I've been playing this bass about 6 months and love it more every day. Own a MiM Fender Jazz and Precision, Stingray and Sire MM V5 but needed a 5 string, and this bass replaces them as the only one I take to shows. Like another reviewer said it's turned my other basses into niche instruments which is indeed somewhat sad haha.

Very impressed with Yamaha, build quality and sound quality is fantastic. Slap some Elixirs on there and you're golden. Multiple sound guys have told me they love my bass tone, and also received several compliments on the looks. It is a beautiful bass and a joy to play.

I keep it in passive mode pretty much all the time but nice to have the active option if I ever play more modern styles. This is the ultimate cover band bass, not sure there's a better option out there. And for the price, it feels like a steal.

Trbx 605 vs the 505

Had an oportunity to play trbx605fm alder body, it was the reason i looked to purchasing a yamaha but due to high volume sales the 605 was nit available which turned out to be a plus i chose the 505 mahogany body model and so glad i did the tone is warmer and punchier, the difference in the tone is more ti my likeing than the alder both models have their pluses but i clearly prefer this model.
Customer service expeirience was top notch.

Big Bang for the Buck

I'm very impressed with the workmanship, playability and tone of this bass. As a 4 string convert, this Yamaha has an excellent neck. Perfect width and depth. The pickups and electronics sound great active or passive. The body shape is very comfortable and it looks great!
Very versatile, covers all the required tones for R&B, jazz, pop, rock, gospel, country etc.
I can finally leave home with one bass. Well done, Yamaha.
Finally, Colton Smirwicky was gracious as usual. Sweetwater has been a good experience for me.

A World Class Instrument With a Little Work

I have owned this bass for 3 or 4 years now. I loved it when I received it and now love it even more. I play it so often that the flat clear coat is now high gloss in the places my body rubs against the bass.

I made a custom brass nut out of a brass rod I ground down using an angle grinder, file. I used a jeweler's saw and triangular file to cut the slots.

For years the "flubbiness" of the B string was an annoyance which was my only issue with the instrument which sounds great in both active and passive mode. I solved the problem by purchasing a .130 gauge B string and installing a bass string tree with a round top that holds down the B & E strings. I used a combination rotary tool and metal file to grind the stem of the string tree down aprox. 3/16" (4.75mm). Problem solved. The difference is not only significant, but a game changer between a really good bass very well made with quality woods, parts and components to a world class instrument.

Love this BASS!!

I've been playing this bass for about two months now and it is phenomenal! The quality is definitely solid for the price! There are no sharp fret ends, the intonation was spot on! The feel of the bass? Amazing! I definitely recommend this bass to anyone searching for a five-stringed bass! You will not regret purchasing this bass!
