This Travel Bass Packs Plenty of Thump

The Traveler Guitar TB-4P travel bass delivers playability and portability — and it weighs in at a mere seven pounds! Just over 35 inches long, the TB-4P Bass is compact enough to fit in a standard airline overhead compartment, making it ready to go when you are. The TB-4P might be light and a bit smaller in design, but it does not sacrifice tone. With an alder body and maple neck, the TB-4P delivers articulate tone that rivals the sound of full-sized basses. You’ll be amazed at how natural it feels to play the 32-inch scale-length maple neck, and how the double-cutaway design makes for comfortable fretboard maneuvering. And when you’re ready to plug the TB-4P Bass into your favorite amp, the MM-101 split coil pickup kicks out full-sized bass volume and tone. There’s even a headphone amp right onboard for silent practice and quiet onstage monitoring, along with an 1/8-inch aux input for grooving along to practice tracks. If you want big bass tone that’s easy to take on the road, Sweetwater highly recommends the Traveler Guitar TB-4P electric bass guitar.

Compact, travel-friendly design with a full 32-inch scale

Can a travel bass feel and play like a full-sized instrument? Yes, it can, and the TB-4P travel bass is proof. This amazingly compact bass guitar features a 32-inch-scale neck topped with a pau ferro fretboard. So, even though it’s the most portable bass guitar you’ve ever played, you won’t have to compromise your playing style one bit.

Traveler Guitar TB-4P Travel Bass Features:

  • Compact size for true mobility — fits in a standard airline overhead compartment
  • Designed with choice tonewoods for a no-compromise tone
  • Features an 1/8-inch aux input jack to connect your portable music player — practice anywhere you go, with the privacy of headphones

This is not a toy!!!

All I can say is this is really a very high quality instrument. I could easliy gig with this and in fact will start bringing it as my back up bass I am so conifdent in its sound and quality. I play 32 inch scale basses so this is a perfect fit for me. Don't hesitate, if you are on the fence just buy it!!!

Screw holding tuning knobs broke in under a year

After under 1 year of very light use and only minor tuning adjustments when picking up the bass, a screw holding the small block of wood with the E and A tuning knobs on the back was ripped out of the body. The screw by the A knob was ripped out and the top of the wood block is now being held only thanks to the shape of the body back there. I don't expect this to last long though. Maybe mine was faulty, but if this is the craftsmanship put into these, it is definitely not worth over $.

Nice Ax

The Traveler Guitar TB-4P Bass is just as I expected it to be. It's convenient, light, small and has a good feel. The headphone amp and mp3 player attachment are great for "traveling." The tone knob also has boost and distortion effects when pressed. (This wasn't listed.)

On the down side, the tuning knobs are a bit fidgety. My hand gets in the way when tuning the E and G strings. After using the 1/4" jack, the headphone amp won't work for a while. (This could be because of the capacitor discharging within the circuit.) This particular Bass has a slightly annoying "dead-spot" at low C (A string). All have easy work arounds.

Well made, poorly designed

Pros:
Compact
Well made neck/fretwork
Great sound through headphones

Cons:
Terrible upper fret access (tiny cutaway)
Difficult to tune
Tuners get in the way while slapping

I am a cross country truck driver and this bass is ideal for practicing while I'm away from home. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the neck felt and how well the onboard headphone amp sounds. Pushing down on the volume knob switches between 4 preset sound profiles. I had not seen this feature mentioned and until I figured it out I thought something was wrong. What I assumed was a dead battery or an electrical issue was actually the distortion preset. My main issues with this instrument are the tuner setup and the cutaway. The tuners are fairly difficult to turn. With your fingers recessed in the tuner cavity it is hard to avoid muting the E and G strings. Also the tuner for the D string sticks up in the exact spot my index finger swings when I play slap bass. I'm used to playing 24 fret Ibanez basses with easily accessible upper frets. Not only does this bass have only 22 frets, but it's near impossible to play above 19. I would never use this for a gig, my other basses are far superior in every way except portability. If you already have a nice bass for gigs and specifically need something compact/portable for practice only, I highly recommend this bass. If you plan on using this for gigs I would advise against it, you can get something better for a comparable price from a different manufacturer.

I always deal with Ian, he is the reason I keep ordering instruments and equipment from Sweetwater. I have never had better customer service from any other person or company.
