14-inch Mahogany Snare with a Low-fi Sound

Like it dark and throaty? If that’s the case, you’ll really dig the Gretsch Swamp Dawg. Boasting a 6-ply mahogany shell, this multifaceted snare drum offers the perfect blend of warmth and resonance, along with a vintage-vibed, low-fi quality that evokes historic 1970s recordings. And when you tune it higher, the Swamp Dawg transforms into a buzz saw, producing a saturated crack that slices through the thickest of mixes. This great-sounding snare includes eight tube lugs and triple-flanged hoops, plus 42-strand snare wires and a double-ply, coated Remo Emperor batter head. The result is an open sound with truckloads of bite and easy playability. The Gretsch Full Range Swamp Dawg is destined to be a hot seller here at Sweetwater. Grab it while you can!

Great Snare right out of the box!

I replaced the Emperor Head with an Evan HD Dry, I also added a snareweight M80 to reduce more overtones.
The snare if PHAT! without chocking out the shell.

Gretsch Swamp Dog

It's a killer! I saw this at a NAMM show and fell in love, bought the 1st one in Canada. It's never let me down, tune it up, tune it down, a real versatile snare drum that works well in any acoustical environment with little or no tuning required. I always get comments on a great snare sound and the size blows fellow drummers away, two of my drumming buddies have also purchased a "Dawg" after hearing and playing mine.
Best snare I've ever owned, bar none!

Absolutely fire snare!

This drum is absolutely killer!! You can tune it high, you can tune it low and it sounds amazing! It has such rich, warm lows, and when you crank it, the highs don't pierce your ears, yet they still cut through! I ended up purchasing the Remo Powerstroke P4 drum head for it, because I will end up tuning it low most of the time, though I am considering purchasing an Evans Hydraulic head. Big thanks to Grant for hooking me up with practically brand new demo snare, at a great price!

If you like it low

When I'm looking to go Lo Fi, low impact and/or low volume, I pull this snare off the shelf. The most frequent praise I get for the Swamp Dawg comes mostly from churches that may wrestle with sound EQ between the snare, cymbals and vocal mics and are looking for that low tone. They love this drum and so do I! It may not be for every situation but if you'd like it low, I'd go with the swamp dawg every time.

Does what they say it does

This drum is deep, and can be tuned higher to get that crack/ depth sound. Im from that era of big, deep snares and im really enjoying it. Ive got a lot of choices and this drum is cool enough to be part of my arsenal. I love that they put locally made heads on it and they appropriately put an emperor drum head on it.
Music background: 44 years behind kit
