15-watt Head That's Big on British Tone

From gigging to recording, chime to dime, the Magnatone Super Fifteen MKII from Sweetwater whispers and screams with golden-era British authority — its 12AX7 and EL84 tube complement take you from full-bodied cleans to brawny British crunch and beyond with the twist of a dial. This handwired head is packed with modern player features, including a tube-safe speaker-emulated output for silent recording and practice; high- and low-gain inputs to favor all tastes and pickups; and an FX return for total flexibility when it comes to positioning your pedals.

Plug-and-play gain options

If you're into pushing tubes, the Magnatone Super Fifteen MKII makes an excellent plug-and-play guitar platform. No pedals are required to coax this amp into breakup; independent gain and master volume controls allow you to prime your preamp and pummel your power section for rich Class AB tube breakup, all without punishing your eardrums.

Mighty onstage — handy in the studio

Don't let the Super Fifteen MKII's rating fool you — this amp screams onstage. Its 15 all-tube watts can capably cover a drummer for club gigs. What's more, speaker-emulated line and headphone outs give you options for silent practice, monitoring, and tracking.

American-made attention to detail

Just like their American namesake, today's Magnatone amps and cabs are built by hand right here in the USA. From their handwired circuits to their Rolls Royce convertible-top covers, you won't find a single component in a Magnatone amp that's anything less than stellar.

Magnatone: a slice of rock history

Magnatone first began producing electric guitars and amplifiers in the late 1930s. By the '50s and '60s, Magnatone amps had become highly sought after, largely because of their distinctive pitch-shifting vibrato effect, which was responsible for the "watery" guitar sounds you hear on Buddy Holly and early Bo Diddley recordings. By 2013, the company entered into a new phase of its evolution, creating a new and improved line of boutique guitar amplifiers that have been embraced by such guitar luminaries as Jeff Beck and Billy Gibbons.

Magnatone Super Fifteen MKII Amplifier Head Features:

  • 15-watt head that's big on British tone
  • Speaker-emulated line and headphone outs for silent practice and tracking
  • Driven by 2 x EL84 output tubes and 3 x 12AX7 preamp/phase splitter tubes
  • High- and low-gain inputs favor all tastes and pickup types
  • 3-band EQ + Presence dials in sounds in seconds flat
  • Gain and Master controls give you total control over breakup and output
  • Speaker main and extension outputs
  • Handbuilt in the USA

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

It's all true

Everything in the description is spot-on. The fit and finish are amazing and I can get about any sound I want out of this amp. The master volume works very well and the EQ is very flexible. I can easily get my Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Sabbath, Stones, James Gang, you name it, out of this amp while my wife talks on the phone to her mother in the other room. I've got 3 pedals on my board I haven't even touched since I got this amp and matching cab. The clean input is very warm and tubey as well.

Awesome Amp!

I got this head home and plugged it in. Immediately I had that great classic rock tone. With a little tweaking it was ZZ Top. With others I could get a nice Zep tone. Overall it's awesome. Nice headroom on the clean channel too. Impressive for a 15 watt amp.

Exactly what I’ve been looking for.

I've been chasing these sounds for a long time with a variety of amps and pedals and all I needed was this head and a Les Paul. The descriptions of Vox meets Marshall are accurate. It's got all that with a very vintage vibe and is very dynamic. I run it with a 212 and it's flat out amazing. No drive pedals necessary but something like my Wampler Tumnus as a boost is perfect. ZZ Top, Stones, AC/DC, any of those great rock tones are there and it cuts in a mix like crazy. If I'd found this amp ten years ago it would have cost me much less in the long run. I may have to invest in its big brother one day tho. Magnatone nailed it.
