Double-cut Semi-Hollow with Vibrato Bridge

The double-cut Starfire I DC is based on a classic Guild design. Its arched center-block construction supplies the airy, resonant quality of some timeless Guild semi-hollow electrics, while at the same time helping to neutralize squealing and squelching in a loud performance setting. This turns out to be quite an asset onstage, especially for rock music. Standard-sized HB-2 alnico humbuckers — which build off of Guild's iconic HB-1s — supply a warmth and bite that compares favorably to some classic PAFs. Not only that, but push-pull pots unlock a distinct single-coil cluck that suits blues, surf, country, and rock music superbly. This Guild Starfire I DC features a Guild-branded vibrato bridge that's built for expressive players. Considering its price and pedigree, the Guild Starfire I DC is one of the most appetizing electrics to come out this season. Get your hands on one today — order now through Sweetwater.

Semi-hollow construction

A center-block, semi-hollow construction — hollow on both sides with a solid core running through the center — gives the Starfire I DC electric guitar that classic Guild tone and response without sacrificing live playability. Together with its quality tonewoods, comfortable neck, rock-solid hardtail bridge, and daring modern electronics, the Starfire I DC has all the makings of a professional instrument at a very reasonable price.

Guild vibrato tailpiece

The Guild-branded vibrato tailpiece installed on the Starfire I DC supplies "big" (if you know what we mean) expression and control. From caterwauling rockabilly leads to cascading waves of texture and color, you'll find all the nuance you need in the Starfire I DC's expressive vibrato system.

Split HB-2 humbuckers

With its HB-2 alnico humbuckers, your Guild Starfire I DC serves up a wide range of multi-generational tone. These pickups unleash fullness and sustain by the truckload, with enough PAF-like warmth to satisfy even the most discriminating tone connoisseur and push-pull coil-splitting for that classic single-coil spank. Plug into a mid-gain amp, and you’ll experience a dynamically rich harmonic breakup. Or park the Starfire I DC in front of a high-gain amp, and you’ll enjoy otherworldly sustain that’s tailor-made for blues and rock leads. Guild's HB-2 humbuckers do a great job of contemporizing the classic HB-1s used by Guild for the past 60 years. And with the addition of their coil-split circuitry, the Starfire I DC packs with sensitivity and dynamics to please virtually any player.

Guild Starfire I DC Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • A professional instrument at a weekender's price
  • Semi-hollow, double-cutaway body construction
  • HB-2 humbuckers build on Guild's timeless HB-1s
  • Push-pull coil-splitting unlocks single-coil quack and spank
  • Guild vibrato tailpiece supplies "big" expression and control
  • Standard-sized humbuckers can easily be swapped out for player customization

Owned for 3 weeks

I purchased this guitar around 3 weeks ago from sweetwater, and am very happy with my purchase. The set up was great, the guitar sounds phenomenal, and plays excellently. The only issue I have found is an occasional buzz on the bridge on the high and low E strings, but it is not consistent nor detrimental.

Guild StarFire 1 DC Pelham Blue

Pros:
Set up and intonation were good
No sharp fret ends
Pickups sound great for Jazzy riffs as well as Rockabilly.
Neck very comfortable

Cons:
Black paint on headstock face "crept " over onto blue paint on the top of the headstock
Finish flaws on the back of the body eg. fisheye, crease in the paint
Blue overspray on fret board at the first fret and on the binding where the body attaches to the neck.

The best Guitar I own!

Is not the most expensive guitar I own-

But after almost 30 years playing guitar
Is the first time I have a guitar that looks awesome
And sounds awesome from the box.

I'm just in love with the looks and sounds!
Music background: Rock, latin jazz, Worship

A must have.

As a long time guitarist I've gone through a lot of guitars of varying price and quality. This is a contender that punches way above its weight class. Superb quality. Fit and finish. The neck is so buttery smooth its out of this world. The tone and sustain is pure elegance and beauty. Goes from gut punch to romantic getaway in a flick of the switch. This is a worthy inclusion to anyone's live or studio playing.
Music background: Varied and extensive.

Good and Not So Good

Set up was pretty good (high e needs to be lowered). Finish is done well with only a few minor blemishes (which is to be expected given the price). Overall, feel of the guitar is really solid. My primary disappointment has been with the electronics (specifically the pots). The tone pots work in a very limited capacity. It's most noticeable on the bridge pick-up (where I tend to want to roll off a bit of the highs). There is no noticeable difference when adjusting the tone from 10-2, then it immediately goes into "muffled" territory. In other words, the tone stays the same (from 10-2) and then immediately drops off (preventing more minor tweaking of your sound). This is the same with the neck pickup, but it is less noticeable. Factoring in the work to make those types of improvements moves the guitar cost into a new price tier (especially without a bag or case included).
