Old-school Fuzz Tones with Modern Control

As much as we love a classic 3-knob fuzz at Sweetwater, we can’t help but be amazed at how Pigtronix’s Star Eater all-analog fuzz pedal blends legendary old-school fuzz sounds with modern tone-shaping versatility! On the fuzz side, the Star Eater sports a voice rocker switch that allows you to effortlessly swap between smooth germanium-style fuzz and wild, aggressive silicon-powered tones. What’s more, the fuzz side’s precision-matched transistor pairs ensure that the famed fuzz “sweet spot” is never far out of reach. Need more control than a standard tone knob? The Booster/Filter section’s contour rocker provides two distinct sweep ranges for your sweep knob, granting you access to serious fuzz-shaping potential.

Intuitive control scheme

There are plenty of fuzz pedals on the market with an endless assortment of knobs and switches, and for good reason, too — they offer far greater control over your sound than the traditional vintage-style fuzz box. One of the most impressive qualities of the Star Eater is how it manages to perfectly toe the line between versatility and simplicity, offering a wealth of different fuzz tones on a simple 3-knob and 2-rocker switch layout that’s simple enough for the stage, but versatile enough for the studio.

Pigtronix Stareater Analog Fuzz Pedal Features:

  • All-analog design delivers authentic old-school fuzz tones
  • Dual footswitch setup, sporting a powerful fuzz side and a versatile Boost/Filter side to cover all of your fuzz needs
  • Precision matched transistor pairs allow you to effortlessly dial in the “sweet spot”
  • Voice rocker switch offers both smooth germanium sounds and wild silicon tones
  • Scoop/Bump rocker switch modifies the range of your sweep control to perfectly shape your fuzz
  • Sleek '80s-style retro aesthetic

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

A beast off a fuzz

Of all my fuzz boxes I find myself running this the most. Lots of midrange if you want it.

Crazy good pedal.

I was on the website and I really like how Sweetwater has videos demonstrating how the pedals operate. Don Carr sold me on it because of all the things this fuzz pedal does. It has octave up and down as well as mixing both original and pedal sound. The amazing sound you can get out of it. Lots of fun playing around with the knobs. Good value for the money.
Music background: semi pro musician. Retired so just play for fun.

Octave up Fuzz with perfect mids!

You know how you have to stick a mid pushed OD with fuzz usually to get it to cut through the mix? Not with this one. Cuts right through with zero perceived volume loss. My favorite fuzz pedal I've ever played!

Awesome and unique Fuzz

If you don't write a song/riff immediately after plugging this in, something is wrong. Very "Queens of the Stone" age sounding fuzz with lots of mid range and a TON of harmonics/octaving happening. It's definitely a nice flavor to have especially for recording, not a buzzy fuzz but more smooth, so great for adding to guitar tracks for layering and adding harmonics. Watch some YouTube videos, if you like the sound grab it!

Not sure I'm man enough for this pedal

If you're looking for a fuzz to add subtle hair to your attack, or to serve as a mostly-clean booster with character, this is not the pedal for you. This pedal goes from electric knife sharpener to jet engine. It has no chill, no clean. If you dial the amount of fuzz ("hunger" for some reason) almost all the way down, the pedal craps out rather than getting clean. If you dial down your guitar, the pedal gets weird and filtery. For me, at least (and to my ears even for the great Don Carr, although RJ Ronquillo has a video where he kills it) this pedal is hard to use for leads. Generally speaking I prefer a a fuzz that ranges all the way down to clean, so that I can tell what it's doing as its effects kick in. Barring that, I wouldn't mind a wet/dry mix knob to keep some original notes and tone. This thing does have range -- it's just that everything in that range is gigantic-sounding grind.

For times when you need some gigantic-sounding grind, though, it's awesome. I run it into a Wampler Black 65 then a Chase Tone Secret Preamp to sweeten it up, but maybe I just need to man up. It's difficult to play this pedal without smiling.
