To achieve the most detailed and inspiring samples possible, Spitfire Audio recruited Simon Rhodes — a 4-time Grammy winner and senior engineer at the one and only Abbey Road Studios. The instruments were captured using a superlative set of Neumann, Sennheiser, and Schoeps microphones in various configurations. Furthermore, the Professional version of Spitfire Studio Strings allows you to mix and match mics using the intuitive microphone mixing tool, although Sweetwater’s producers find that falling back on Simon’s mix of microphones is always a sure bet!

While scores of Spitfire’s orchestral plug-ins leverage the exquisite ambience and colorful vibe of AIR Studios’ legendary Lyndhurst Hall, producers who prefer to modify their samples with effects may prefer more neutral-sounding samples. For this reason, Spitfire Audio opted to record the Studio Strings collection in AIR Studio 1 — a drier and more controllable space than Lyndhurst Hall.
