Slash's Signature Tone with Extra-hot Output

The Seymour Duncan Slash 2.0 humbucker takes the top-hatted one's signature APH-2 pickup and ups the ante with a hotter wind for hard-hitting performance in live applications. Loaded with an Alnico II magnet, the Slash 2.0 delivers the same soft high-end attack and low-string pull as its predecessor, along with a warm, extra-sweet sound that's thick, smooth, and offers near-endless sustain. The guitarists here at Sweetwater appreciate the excellent, handbuilt quality of the Slash 2.0. If you're searching for a way to push your amp with a fine-tuned balance of volume, drive, and compression, it's so easy with Seymour Duncan Slash 2.0 pickups.

Seymour Duncan Slash 2.0 Humbucker Pickup Set Features:

  • Based on Slash's signature APH-2 humbucker, but with a hotter wind
  • Alnico II magnet delivers the same soft high-end attack and low-string pull as its predecessor
  • Yields a warm, extra-sweet sound that's thick, smooth, and sustaining
  • Serves up a fine-tuned balance of volume, drive, and compression that excels in live applications

SLASH 2.0

I dropped these into a 2006 PRS Tremonti SE as an experiment. With upgraded CORE PRS pots and vintage cloth wiring. It completely blew me away. I love the more aggressive output and with good pots using a PRS set up .033 Cap and 180 resistor you can dial in some clean in that neck and using both pickups together for some Jazz or smooth melodies. Seymour Duncan nailed it again. I have an original Slash set in a Les Paul using .47 orange caps and have always loved them however these I have really enjoyed.

Nice choice between vintage PAF types and high output

I don't write reviews on sweetwater. So please bear with my verbosity.

I've owned dozens of sets from Seymour over the last 42 years including multiple original A2Pro and Slash 1.0 sets (not a Slash disciple, but he has pretty good taste in pickups and Les Paul neck specs). I've owned and still own booteek $ sets to cheap $ sets. Every guitar is different and what pickups you love in one, may not work in the next at all.

Case in point:

I purchased these for my #1. A naturally big and warm sounding Les Paul Slash Standard I converted to 50s wiring and 510ish K pots and pio caps. The 2.0 set was too warm in this guitar, too smooth, and too polite: Not where I want to be (70s hard rock- Marshalls, G12M/H speakers, occasional use of phaser, chorus, delay effects straight into the amp)

Dropped them into my #2 which I've struggled with for 10 years tonally: a naturally bright, thinner sounding Les Paul Traditional (also 50s wiring, slighly warmer pots) that I've put countless pickup sets into, changed all the hardware on, etc. Fired up my amp and Bingo- Fattened up, guitar became super punchy, loud, has warmth but still has bite. Was blown away at the change. #2 now nearly rivals my #1 plugged in.

Highly recommend the 2.0 set if you need to add some oomph to a weak/bright/thin sounding Les Paul (or just use lighter gauge strings) without going to HO pickups like Duncan SH5/14, Dimarzio Super/TZ, Suhr Aldrich, etc. They also clean up beautifully rolling off your volumes, and working with your tone controls.

I would not recommend these for a naturally warmer/dark/muddy guitar.

They are definitely a bit hotter than the 1.0 set, but not overly so. Mine read 9.73k bridge/9.3 neck right out of the package if you care about such things. Retains all the articulation, good feel and slight compression you are used to with the original AP2s and the 1.0 Slash set. Maybe better.

Shoutout to Bob Mondok. Been working with him for 15 years at least. Great guy and always a treat to work with.
