Vintage American Tones with Powerful Tonal Options

The Tone King Sky King 35-watt 1 x 12-inch combo guitar amplifier is back! This master of vintage American-style tones packs an unbelievable amount of sonic options into a straightforward, grab-and-go amp. You'll find two footswitchable channels that are voiced after the finest blackface- and tweed-style amps of the '50s and '60s. Flip the mode switch around back from pentode to ultralinear mode, and the Sky King takes on a smokier character with intense touch response. Add boutique power attenuation for each channel with footswitchable, tube-driven reverb and tremolo, and the Tone King Sky King will be your dream amplifier.

Massive tonal tweaking

What sets the Tone King Sky King apart from other American-voiced combos is the quality of tone and response, as well as the wide variety of tones that are available onboard. The rhythm and lead channels lean toward the tones of the '50s and '60s combos that came out of California. Give the lead channel's Mid-Bite control a spin and you'll bring on a tighter gain, reminiscent of the amps from across the pond. The back of the Sky King even has a mode switch that selects between pentode and ultralinear modes, allowing the amp to dive into a smokier and lower gain voice that is absolutely elastic under your fingers.

Onboard Ironman II attenuator

Tone King installed their Ironman II power attenuator into the Sky King for wide-ranging dynamic control. The Ironman II is engineered to bring your screaming tube tones to a whisper or any volume in between. Its reactive load technology ensures total transparency throughout the attenuator's range. That way, when you bring your volume down, your Tone King Sky King still sings and responds with the exact same tone and feel as it would wide open. And best of all, each channel boasts its own attenuation to get the perfect sonic balance.

Tube-driven effects

To further nail the vintage vibe, Tone King outfitted these 35-watt combos with tube-driven reverb and tremolo. The spring reverb is controlled via a single, intuitive knob on the amp's faceplate that mixes in more or less of the effect along with your original signal. The bias-modulated tremolo circuit — a Sweetwater favorite — adds the pulsating movement to your tone that has found its way onto countless hit recordings in rock, country, blues, and beyond. And they're both footswitchable for ultimate control.

Tone King Sky King 35W Combo Tube Amp Features:

  • Combo tube amp with vintage-style American tones
  • 2-channel design offers Cali-style cleans and grinding tweed-style tone
  • Onboard power attenuator provides cranked tone at quiet volumes
  • Custom-voiced Celestion Tone King 12-inch speaker
  • Bias modulation tremolo circuit delivers vintage-style pulse
  • Tube-driven spring reverb with wide-ranging control
  • Mode switch selects pentode-style presence or a spongier ultralinear mode
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!
