A Tripartite Threat of Analog, Tape, and Digital Delay Tones

From pristine digital delay and analog-style warmth to the artifact-ridden repeats of tape echo, the EarthQuaker Devices Silos multi-generational time reflection pedal packs three dynamic delay algorithms into a straightforward stompbox format. This ultra-versatile delay pedal’s trio of tones provides a veritable history lesson in the art of echo, with each algorithm boasting up to a second’s worth of delay time. Time, Repeats, and Mix controls make it a breeze to fine-tune your dream delay tone, while the Silos’ powerful Preset switch offers instant recall of up to six distinct patches. Moreover, Silos grants superior in-the-moment control via a dedicated tap tempo footswitch and a user-configurable expression control to effortlessly swap between hard-edged slapback to spacious soundscapes while you’re onstage. Merging all the versatility of a massive multi-patch delay workstation with the intuitive workflow of a 4-knob pedal, the Silos stompbox solidifies EarthQuaker Devices’ legacy of bringing boutique-level stompbox brilliance to the masses.

Dive into three silos of sound

The team at EQD tells Sweetwater that the Silos was born of founder Jamie Stillman’s admiration of his three favorite echo boxes — and his desire to have them all on his pedalboard without taking up too much space! Thus, the Silos features three spot-on delay algorithms to swap between.

  • Digital: Clean and crisp is the name of the game here, with the Silos’ digital mode retaining crystal-clear fidelity on your repeats with a slight top-end roll off.
  • Analog: Slightly more midrange-forward in the attack than the other modes, Analog mode features a dark degradation to repeats that’s ideal for crafting moody textures and soundscapes.
  • Tape: Finally, the Silos’ Tape mode captures the warm, vibey voice of old-school tape delay. Switch to this setting for textured artifacts, a darker tonality, and just a touch of pleasing distortion.

Extensive preset and expression controls

Considering the Silos' trio of sounds takes you from a pristine digital delay to moody tape echoes to old-school analog, it’s all but guaranteed you’ll find more than a few favorite tones you want to save for later. When you do, the Silos sports a robust preset section that allows you to save up to six patches for instant recall. Moreover, the Silos boasts an expression control input for plenty of in-the-moment experimentation onstage. You can assign your expression pedal to any of the Silos’ three parameters, and your chosen parameter even carries over into your respective preset slot. Finally, Silos features a dedicated tap tempo footswitch to dial in the perfect delay time — no knob-twiddling required.

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

Worth every penny
I'm a bit of an EQD fan boy, but this is an amazing pedal. It's simple, the tap tempo switch is quiet, the presets are nice, the paint job is super cool; it's pleasantly laid out. As for the sounds, it does exactly what you'd expect. Pristine digital recreation, grainy tape degradation, but my favorite thing is when the analog setting goes into self oscillation it doesn't skyrocket the volume and scrape your eardrums. It can but if you have the mix set properly, it's fine. At this price with the features it offers, this is a no brainer for any guitarist. Sounds really nice on bass too.
Earth quaker knocked it out of the park again !!
This pedal is one of the best delays by far, its great for cleans and just as good with low down tuned distortion riffs I play doom metal, and this pedal does everything and more. If you're on the fence about this pedal don't be its totally worth it and will not disappoint

Love the sound and features but...
I think EQD nailed it with the set of features the Silos includes. Tap-tempo, 6 presets, Digital/Analog/Tape modes, top-mounted jacks, and all in a standard-pedal-sized package! What more could one ask for? The issue I had is that the pedal would introduce a high-pitched dial-up kind of noise in Analog mode and an oscillating hiss in Tape mode (even if the pedal was switched off). Super weird! I assumed mine was just defective. After extensive troubleshooting, my Sweetwater guy swapped it out for me. Well, the replacement did the same exact thing so it must be something inherent to the circuit. I don't care for digital delays and that was the only mode I could use it in without excessive unwanted noise. It's possible that the pedal was responding to something in the area or even in my rig but none of my other pedals do this and being susceptible to such things is still a weakness in design IMHO.
