Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon!

With its internal reflex channel and front sound port in place of a traditional rear-facing one, the Meinl Percussion Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon gives you enhanced bass note projection that's awesome for live and unplugged gigs. Fixed internal snare wires serve up a crisp, cutting sound that enhances your corner slaps and adds a dash of contrast to bass notes. The Jumbo Bass Cajon is designed to project huge, deep bass tones that swell when you play harder and respond much like a bass drum with a soft punch behind quiet notes. At Sweetwater, we're really enjoying the Meinl Percussion Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon. You will, too.

My favorite Cajon!

I was never really a huge fan of cajons, then I heard this one. There is definitely and extended low end here, that makes it sound more like a drum and less like a box. Also, with the bass port on the front, it makes mic'ing it much easier. I now prefer cajons to djembes. If you want to hear one in action, and see how to mic it properly, I will link a tutorial video.

Marching Band in a Box

I've owned this and several other Meinl Cajons, and I can't resist sitting down and playing it for a few minutes whenever I pass it in my house. The sound is huge, and the instrument is solidly constructed.

Initially I was turned off by the cajon being mostly constructed from MDF, but synthetic materials tend to project more, and that's what you're paying for with this monster. The front facing ports are easy to mic and fire bass tones like two cannons and if you've got a strong hand, the effect is earth-shattering. So use with caution. Powerful bass is a responsibility.

Another benefit of the composite material is that the Cajon is neigh indestructible. Of the Cajons in my collection, this is by far the most heavy duty; I never feel like its going to break when I sit on it. The top is also coated with a gritty non-slip surface that gives the Subwoofer Cajon a more premium look and feel. Its also huge, so if you're a big and tall or both player, you'll find more surface area here to accommodate you.

Out of the box, the snare tones pop pretty well and the frankly gorgeous walnut tappa (frontplate) has a lot of character while feeling good on the hands. I love to modify instruments, so I replaced them with slightly longer snares that go all the way to the top. You can also remove the little strip on the inside of the faceplace if you'd like more snare in your bass. It can always be stapled back into place.

I would hazard to say that this is Meinl's most popular Cajon. It hits all the venn diagram points where price, construction quality, playability, and good sound intersect.

If this is your first Cajon, its a great one to grow into and if you already own several, this is something a bit different with a fairly unique sound and feel among Cajons that could potentially inspire you as it did me.

Satisfied percussionist ! Love this cajon!

I've waited for about two weeks for this cajon to arrive . Living on Guam so far away from states ,I am very satisfied and thankful for Sweetwater's customer service ! Upon arriving , I observed that mostly everything was in good shape . The only flaw was a minimal scratch-like crack on the bottom ,middle area of cajon ,but other than that , this cajon's sounds are so good! The bass is unbelievable, the snares are very evident and overall ,this is definitely a cajon that everyone will have no regrets having and playing to any rhythm of a song !

Cajon rating

The unit has lived up to its expectations. It has a good deep sound and the snare part is responsive to the tempo.

Great addition to the studio, and perfect for letting nearly anyone in on a song

I picked up this piece as an addition to my home studio, and quickly found it was just awesome to have around. Nearly anyone can sit down and jam along with this. It sounds fantastic mic'd up. It's not going to be something where you can completely tune the snare rattle, but you can open it up and make some subtle adjustments, or just run the face plate tighter/looser depending on the tone you want from this.

Overall, super happy with the purchase, as always. WELL Worth the buy.
