The Gibson Songwriter Cutaway

With the Gibson Acoustic Songwriter Cutaway, you get a small square-shoulder cutaway dreadnought body made from choice tonewoods that make up a very attractive and very playable acoustic-electric guitar. The Songwriter Cutaway is a great performance instrument with outstanding acoustic tone, thanks to its solid Sitka spruce top and solid rosewood body. And Fishman Prefix Plus-T electronics are ready for you to take to the stage with impeccable clarity and dynamics. With a sweet voice and looks to match, the Gibson Acoustic Songwriter Cutaway is sure to impress.

Built for premium tone

Rich, detailed overtones abound from the Songwriter Cutaway's solid rosewood back and sides, and they look fantastic. What's more, the Songwriter is topped with solid Sitka spruce, adding rich and powerful accents to your sound. When you imagine what an acoustic guitar is supposed to sound like, this is it. Gibson even incorporated 1930s-style hand-scalloped Advanced X-bracing, further enhancing your tone and projection.

Amazing sound onstage

The Gibson Acoustic Songwriter Studio Cutaway comes with Fishman's powerful Prefix Plus-T acoustic pickup system. This system, which is very popular at Sweetwater, features an under-saddle pickup that combines with a powerful side-mounted preamp for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. Controls include Bass, Contour, Treble, and Brilliance to make carving out your sonic territory fast and intuitive. Add in the onboard tuner, and you have a powerful live-performance tonal solution.

Exceptionally smooth playability

The Songwriter Cutaway has a Comfort Contour neck profile that feels at home in your hand whether you're playing chords or single-note lines. As you play your way up the fretboard, you'll definitely appreciate the smooth feel of the bound fingerboard with rolled edges. With a neck that plays this smooth, you'll be able to play longer with less fatigue — a very important consideration for acoustic guitar performance.

Why Buy Your Guitar from Sweetwater?

See how Sweetwater goes to great lengths to give you the very best online guitar buying experience. What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

WOW INCREDIBLE!!!

I have been lucky enough over the years to have own and played some top tier guitars ,Martin D-28,35,41,Taylor 716,814ce,Guild D-55 etc..I always wanted a Gibson , but had to be spruce and rosewood and a cut-away so that cut a lot of the bigger named Gibsons . So I took a shot on this Gibson songwriter,I got the rosewood burst and of course the cut-away version. First off I read a review stating that the neck was not really set up good for playing lead 12" vs 16" I guess is what they were saying. I must say this neck is by far the fastest neck and easiest to play by far ( almost feel like I am playing a electric guitar) But what really blew me away was this full sounding almost grand piano sounding guitar ,the most balanced sound that will fill the whole room up and sustain forever and all this is before you even plug this guitar in, too me this is the all around best guitar for my needs and any of the guitars I have mentioned,oh and by the way this guitar is beautiful and flawless build plays like butter right out of the box , for the first no set up of any kind was needed .Big thanks to my sales guy CRAIG MILLS EXT 3274 really helped me out with this guitar .Gibson has out done them selfs with this stunning guitar.

Excellent guitar !

Definitely impressed with this awesome guitar. Beautiful full sound with fantastic resonance and sustain, plays very well and has excellent craftsmanship. Very comfortable neck, easy to play and sounds fantastic strumming or picking.
I was very happy with my Martin acoustic, but I am ecstatic about this Gibson. Yep, you can't go wrong with this one, nothing to not like about it. :)

Dream acoustic guitar

I really wanted to get a Martin or Taylor but after playing this Gibson there was no better choice for me. It plays like a dream and sounds amazing too. The neck isn't thin but I have small hands and have no issues playing it at all.

Gibson Songwriter Standard EC Rosewood - Rosewood Burst Acoustic Guitar

Awesome! This guitar is outstanding! The craftsmanship and detail are very good. No flaws that I could find. The neck to body construction is solid. The appearance is very good and the abalone rosette and parallelogram fingerboard markers are really nice. The guitar is very balanced - all six strings are very even and the high E string rings out well when soloing but not overly bright. The bass notes are good also. The neck is very nice - really smooth gibson neck - very fun to play - factory string height is perfect for my style of playing. I sometimes forget it is an acoustic guitar.

The rosewood back is bookended and looks very nice. The top grain of the sitka spruce top is also bookended and has a very tight even grain - very good tone woods. The tone of the guitar is so nice with subtle overtones and it projects really well. The combination of the rosewood back and sides, plus rosewood bridge and fingerboard are nicely matched.

The Fishman electronics appear to work well - still learning how to use them. The Fishman instructions were not very good - you will have to adjust the pre-amp to figure out what the adjustments do by listening. I was able to get a great ringing sustain with a bell like sparkle when using the brilliance slider. I had a few instances where the tuner would not start - after waiting a few minutes everything seemed ok. The 1/4 inch cable connection does needs to be inserted firmly with a snap for a positive connection for the amplifier. I did have a slight bit of trouble getting a solid electrical connection upon the first try, but after reinserting the cable everything worked just fine. Perhaps since the input connection is brand new, the tolerance is tight.

The bracing is well done as well - this guitar construction appears to be very solid. I purchased a great guitar and this one will not get sold.

This guitar was expensive but a good value compared with the Martin, Taylor and Guild brands. To get true rosewood, you have to open up the wallet. The hard case is great - very solid - this guitar deserves a good hard case. The case helps with humidity control.

This guitar is a great investment and will get played quite a bit.
Music background: Play guitar, bass, some keyboards and vocals. Practice daily if possible. Enjoy writing original music in the rock, country rock, blues vein. Enjoy improvisation.
