Dampen the Overall Volume of Your Drum Kit When Needed

Dampen the overall volume from your drums with the TAMA Soft Sound Ring Set 5-piece with Soft Sound Beater. This set of 6mm-thick foam rubber rings lays easily on your drum heads, and with a large open center hole, they do not impede your playing. Also included in this set is one Soft Sound Beater for your bass head — a quality beater that delivers a slightly softer sound than a regular bass drum beater. Many of the drummers here at Sweetwater use TAMA Soft Sound Rings to control the volume of their own kits.

TAMA Soft Sound Ring Set with Soft Beater Features:

  • Set of foam rubber rings with center holes that dampen overall volume of shells and heads
  • One soft beater for bass drum softens overall volume of kick drum

Happy with these
I bought these just to give it a try. They certainly cut some volume, maybe about 6 db-ish in my room setting. They also kill the resonant for sure. But in my application, I need to lower the volume from the acoustic drum significantly, I just have to live with the resonant being taken away, and losing some of the tonal quality.

After using the Sound Ring, I still need to use a different pair of drumsticks to make the kit even more quiet.

My favorite part of this set is the kick drum beater! That to me really helps to balance the now more quiet snares and toms.

This is a much cheaper alternative (sort of) in comparison to buying a Roland or Alesis and DWE Set.

Great mutes to drop the volume a few dbs
These soft mutes are super easy to use and quite effective at reducing the volume of the drums without much impact on overall tone. Just toss them onto the drum head and start playing.

The real thing.
The Tama soft sound rings give me the perfect volume in my apartment. Loud enough to be heard but soft enough to not disturb my neighbors.
You also have the exposed head of the drums so for a natural feel, not like you're playing on pads.
Also if you have muted cymbals I recommend a couple of pieces of thick double faced tape on the bottom of the cymbals if they are still a bit loud.
Happy playing!
