A 6-string Bass for the Seasoned Musician

Built with a poplar-burl-topped okoume body that provides it with fast attack, bright tonality, and a tight low end, the Ibanez Bass Workshop SRMS806 is ready for serious work at every gig. A 5-piece jatoba/walnut neck makes a fine tonal complement while supplying excellent comfort and stability. The SRMS806's multi-scale fingerboard offers optimal tension and playability. Experience superior intonation and vibration transference, thanks to a Mono-rail VS bridge. A duo of Bartolini BH2 dual-coil pickups yields incredible depth and clarity, a 3-band EQ allows for further sonic sculpting, and a 3-way midrange switch rounds out the SRMS806's controls. To top it all off, the Bass Workshop SRMS806 features black matte hardware for a sleek, eye-catching look.

Better comfort, tension, and tone

Multi-scale frets are an exciting new trend in high-end bass guitar design. They yield a longer scale on the bass side of the instrument and a shorter scale on the treble side, offering you better intonation and more consistent tension and attack from string to string. And while getting used to them may look like it will be quite an undertaking, Sweetwater bassists insist that it's a very natural transition. And the better intonation, consistent string tension, and more open tone far outweigh any difference from other basses.

Bartolini BH2 pickups deliver full and balanced tone

Bartolini BH2 pickups maintain a superb balance between the Bass Workshop SRMS806's clarity and depth. They provide complexity and warmth in the mids and low-end depth that won't wash out. Long-blade pole pieces allow these dual-coil pickups to offer hum-free single-coil-style character and consistency. When you want to sculpt your SRMS806's tone, just reach for the 3-band EQ. This active equalizer delivers wide frequency-range adjustments on each band. There's also a 3-way midrange switch that lets you define your instrument's presence. Whether you want round R&B throb or responsive thumb-technique punch, the SRMS806 delivers.

Mono-rail VS bridge for ultimate string isolation

The Mono-rail VS bridge installed on the Bass Workshop SRMS806 solves the issue of too much string crosstalk some other basses struggle with. When you play a string, sympathetic vibrations can set the other strings into motion. But by separating the bridge into five independent "mini bridges," the Mono-rail VS maximizes vibration transfer without interference from the other strings. Ibanez goes so far as to call the Mono-rail VS "the ultimate bridge for bass string isolation." Each bridge is independently and securely locked down to the body for maximum vibration transfer without interference.

WOW. Fully Impressed.

First impression was stellar. I performed a full inspection as soon as it came out of the package. The set up was spot on. Overall build quality was very good. The only blemishes are around one of the mono bridges there is the tiniest router mark from bit chatter. And when the light hits just right on the bottom bevel line there is approximately a 1mm "wobble" that shows its not exactly perfect. Both are so miniscule that I could not even get them to show in a photo. The neck is thin enough that the width is not cumbersome. The fan feels very natural, my fingers just wanted to land in the right placement. The just under 2 inch fan suites the instrument very well. I detuned to "A" standard and put it through the paces. Some Gojira, an Insomnium album done finger style and a few others that require a good amount of punch while maintaining clarity. The Bartolini B4 pickups delivered. The weight is fully manageable at 9lbs 5oz (Most are around 9lbs 10oz) and first session was a rather energetic 90+ minutes and I was not crippled after. Looking forward to many years of enjoying this fantastic Bass.

Pluses and Minuses SRMS806

Firstly, I like this guitar...now. About 6 months old since I purchased it from SW.
I may be a bit of a freak, some would say too true to that but right is right!
- I found the pickups completely underwhelming, with no high-end articulation, and a bit muddy.
I swapped out these Knock-off Bartolinis (and I love Bartolinis!) and slapped in a pair of Nordstrandd "Big Split 6" in there. Major difference! Now it's all there, I kept the pre-amp to see how it would handle the new pickups and so far so good... https://nordstrandaudio.com/collections/6-string-soapbar-bass-pickups/products/big-split-6
- One of the machine pegs is starting to seize up so I'll just replace the whole set with Hipshots...
- Last but not least, changing out the stock strings allowed me to get on the C string side of the nut and file it down to a dull but softer nubbins. It was so sharp that when I would slide up to the first fret, it would occasionally puncture my index finger right below the index knuckle. So that was no Bueno!

In the end, The neck is pretty fair, I actually like that the preamp only requires a single 9V, not too heavy overall. As I stated above, I might be more of a freak but if yer not happy with your rig, yer just gonna be fighting it as long as you own it! Either return it or fix it!
Music background: Pretty much tons of different music over the years including Phish, Grateful Dead, 70s, 80.s and so forth.
