Earthworks’ Amazing Handheld Condenser Mic

Earthworks precision engineered their SR314 handheld condenser microphone to offer a fresh approach to miking live vocals. The SR314’s tight cardioid polar pattern provides consistent frequency response to 90º off axis, with extreme attenuation of off-axis sound sources beyond 90º and maximum rejection at 180º. It captures natural, open, rich-sounding vocals with minimal proximity effect and delivers articulate low end close-up that doesn’t thin out with distance. This allows singers to “work the mic” without dramatic changes in sound. The SR314’s 145dB SPL handling and an extended 20Hz–30kHz frequency response further enhance the versatility of this incredible mic, making it as useful for high-fidelity capture of instruments as it is for vocals.

“The instrument for vocalists”

Billed as “the instrument for vocalists,” Earthworks designed the SR314 for today’s live performance environment. The beautiful, retro-futuristic design incorporates stainless steel artfully sculpted through precision machining to give you a microphone that is inspiring to the eye, balanced in the hand, and robustly engineered to withstand the rigors of the road. Protected within its steel exoskeleton is a studio-grade, small-diaphragm, cardioid condenser capsule coupled with a Class A amplifier circuit that leverages Earthworks’ patented, proprietary technologies to deliver one of the fastest mics on the planet.

Studio-grade sound quality

The SR314’s extended, flat frequency response and excellent coherence time with fast, clean impulse response sets the Earthworks SR314 apart from other handheld vocal mics in its class. Layer by layer, Earthworks systematically eliminated distortion and noise normally added by acoustic and electronic circuit components to give you a microphone that unveils the true voice of the artist. Earthworks may position the SR314 as a live vocal mic, but its outstanding sound and performance have certainly caught the attention of studio engineers at Sweetwater.

Revolutionizing the live-music experience

The SR314 revolutionizes the live-music experience for performers, engineers, and audiences. Faster soundchecks and better monitor mixes let artists focus on what matters most: the performance. Front-of-house engineers are freed from the vicious cycle of corrective EQ, overt compression, de-essing, and perpetual feedback vigilance. Audiences hear nuanced vocals that sit perfectly in the mix, bridging the gap that so often separates the experience of listening to live music versus studio recordings.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Quality is perfect!!

I went from using a Shure SM7B microphone to the Earthworks SR314 & boy is the difference very noticeable! My artists were amazed on how they sounded with this new mic I got for the studio. I record Corrido's that consist of acoustic guitars, bass, & of course... vocals!! All recorded using the SR314!

Oh & I chose the color black because I didn't see any reviews on it & also I grew up seeing the raw stainless steel color growing up at my dad's CNC Shop he owns so I said I'll go with the black one haha.
I recommended the black colored SR314 because it looks bad ***!!!

Stay hard!!

Beautifully clear mic. I love it.

After weeks of research and reviews, this was the one I chose. The Earthworks SR314 really sounds true to life. I love the way it sounds on my (baritone) voice. It's exceptionally clear without being boomy. I've used this for singing and speech in a partially treated room. It picks up very little handling or room noise, but is super clear with everything in front of the capsule. It works well on my wife's (alto) voice too, but I use EQ to reduce higher frequencies a little.

This mic is very sensitive to plosives or wind/breath. That's easily avoided by positioning the mic at an angle instead of directly in front of me.

Earthworks SR314 handheld Vocal Condenser Microphone- Black

Crystal clear vocals. If you are looking for something to cover up or distort your vocals, this is not your microphone. Beautiful clarity, no feedback, no distortion.. Make sure you dial your gain WAY DOWN gradually increase, as this has a ton of phantom power. slightly heavy but very rugged by design. love they put out a completely Black model. For me the stainless is to flashy.

PSA for an otherwise excellent mic

My singing partner has been urging me to get a good hand held condenser for quite a while. She uses a KMS104 and loves it. I finally caved and went for the Earthworks SR314. I have to say it was stunning and I loved everything about it. Shortly after using it for a while it began producing strange audible pops and clicks. I did a ton of troubleshooting on different systems and interfaces and it was indeed the mic. Sweetwater replaced it with another and I was back in business. Until, the replacement started doing the exact same thing. I was beyond bummed because I really love this mic. Once again I did a series of troubleshooting to be sure it wasn't a problem on my end. It was definitely the mic - same exact issue as the former one.

I sent that one back and didn't dare go for a 3rd. Sweetwater replaced it with a KMS104. It's a wonderful mic, but for my voice the SR314 was much better. So, it's a mystery. I'm still thinking of trying out another SR314 down the line when I catch up financially a bit. Maybe by then the batch with the issues will be long gone and I can reunite with my preferred microphone.
