Faithful to the 1946 P-90 Soapbar

1946 was a red-letter year for the electric guitar pickup. This year famously introduced us to the twang, snarl, sweetness, and sparkle of Kalamazoo's inimitable soapbar-style P-90. It's to this model and vintage of pickup that the Seymour Duncan Vintage P90 looks. Duncan's historically correct reproduction starts with dual alnico V bar magnets and short-wide bobbins known to give this pickup its powerful output and unique midrange character. And for added mojo and authority, its plain enamel wire is wound to 9.7kΩ DCR on the very same Leesona winders used in the original P-90's 1950s factory. Wax potting neutralizes the feedback issues common to this style of pickup. And best of all, the Seymour Duncan Vintage P90 is drop-in ready for all your favorite soapbar-equipped guitars. A braided single-conductor cable rounds out this impressive re-creation. Searching for that post-war P-90 pickup flavor? It starts with the Seymour Duncan Vintage P90 bridge pickup from Sweetwater.

The first and the best. if it was'nt any good, then why still make it?

If you pick the guitar strings at the bridge and move towards the neck you will notice a vast difference in tonation. This is the basis for pickup placement on any fretted instrument. From thin and crisp to fat and mellow, this is the tonal range of the guitar. Amps are a lot better than the old days and are a lot cleaner, thus the need for added protection against 60 cycle hum. Humbucker pickups have a greater impedence due to more copper windings. this is good but for the placement of the pickup magnets, thy pickup two tonal ranges confusing the output. Thus build a better single coil. Seymour duncan has done just that. From the days of the old blues men who used what was available, to the les paul grasping tone that was lot cleaner and louder. The SP90-1b gives you the proper tonal placement with the output you'd expect from a humbucker!
