Nail the Iconic Marshall Sounds of the ’90s

Marshall’s JCM900 fueled the sound of countless rock and metal acts in the ’90s, ruling the airwaves with its bright and aggressive bite — the Marshall Studio 900 combo packs that iconic sound down into the brand’s compact, modernized, and ardently accessible Studio lineup. This true tube combo amplifier wields dual ECC83 preamp tubes, an ECC83 phase splitter, and two 5881 power tubes, offering all the high-octane tube/solid-state hybrid saturation of its 100-watt inspiration at a far more stage- and studio-friendly 20-watt power rating. Two channels are on tap with remote footswitch control, along with a 3-band global EQ, global Presence control, extensive gain-shaping knobs, and an onboard spring reverb to impart a touch of space to your sound. Moreover, while the Marshall Studio 900’s tone and aesthetics authentically pay tribute to the mighty JCM900, this amp matches its modernized Studio series siblings with 5- and 1-watt power scaling modes, a top-class effects loop, and a speaker-emulated DI output. Capture the sound of the ’90s and enjoy all the modern-minded benefits of the high-performance Studio series with Marshall's powerhouse Studio 900!

Tube warmth, solid-state clipping

While the original JCM900 was a true tube amp through and through, its valve-fueled circuit sported a secret weapon to turn up the high-gain heat: clipping diodes. This design essentially packed a dirtbox directly into your amplifier, allowing you to savor the sounds of both true tube saturation and stompbox-style aggression. Marshall’s Studio 900 matches its predecessor with a similar design, resulting in a hard-hitting hybrid tone that blends all the warmth and complexity of a valve-driven design with the bite and reliability of solid state.

Loaded with all the player-friendly features you need

The Marshall Studio 900 sports a plethora of updates on the original JCM900, along with a smattering of modern features that the ’90s could only dream of! You’ll enjoy cranked-amp tones and screaming saturation at any volume level thanks to the Studio 900’s 5- and 1-watt power scaling modes — all but a prerequisite for Sweetwater’s apartment-dwelling guitarists and a boon for any musician with volume concerns. Next, the onboard effects loop makes it a breeze to integrate your favorite time-based and modulation effects. Prefer to record silently? A speaker-emulated DI output sends your sound straight to your audio interface or PA with ample authenticity.

Marshall Studio 900 Combo Features:

  • 2-channel, 20W tube combo amplifier inspired by the JCM900 — a high-octane hybrid amp that fueled countless rock and metal acts in the 1990s
  • Dual 5881 power tubes, a pair of ECC83 preamp tubes, and an ECC83 phase splitter pair with clipping diodes to merge all the warmth of tube saturation with the clarity and reliability of solid state
  • Treble, Middle, Bass, and Presence knobs to dial in your sound to perfection
  • Speaker-emulated DI output for easy recording and straight-to-PA gigging
  • FX loop makes it a breeze to integrate your favorite time-based and modulation pedals
  • Spring reverb circuit rounds out your sound with depth, space, and character
  • 5W/1W power scaling for cranked tube tones at home- and recording-appropriate volume levels
  • Classic aesthetics that are sure to thrill fans of the original JCM900
  • Proudly made in Marshall’s UK factory in Bletchley, England
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

This thing rocks it does it all !
Tone Monster!
I'm really enjoying this amp. Both channels give to so much to explore. Great cleans, edge of break up and crunchy rhythm on channel 1. And great heavy rhythm to soaring leads on channel 2.
Music background: 30+ years
Everything I was hoping for
This amp is so freakin awesome. Both channels are very versatile and you can pretty much get about every tone you want out of it. At least to my ears. Very happy with this purchase. Such a great sounding amp. Really brings my Strat to life.
Music background: home hobbyist
1st Marshall UK made
WOW! Bought on suggestions from friends and they were 100% right! 2 different gain channels, each with its own flavor. 1st combo amp in my collection and I am overjoyed with it. It still is very loud at 20 watts! Perfect for jamming, bedroom and studio work and most of all lightweight. Will probably get the JCM 800 STUDIO 20 WATT combo next. Very happy with my purchase!!!!!

90s Tonal Bliss
If you grew up in the 90s you know the sound. This amp partnered with my 58 Les Paul Jr Double Cut is all I need. Every tone I want at my fingertips. Guitar + Amp = No BS.

There are countless "British"-style guitar amplifiers out there, but take it from the lifelong guitarists and tone connoisseurs at Sweetwater, when it comes to Marshall tone, there's nothing like the real thing. We've played them all, from vintage JTM45s and the ultra-cool Plexi reissue to modern handmade masterpieces such as the JVM410. There isn't a model among them we can't recommend with total confidence, and that includes their more affordable models too, like MG, DSL, and Code series amps. Thanks to our tight relationship with Marshall, Sweetwater's always on the cutting edge of their latest designs, custom models, and limited-edition gems. If you want iconic tone from across the pond, you want Marshall, and your Sweetwater Sales Engineer will help you find the perfect one.
