Dark and Projective Bottom Hi-hat

Outfit your kit with some cymbals that deliver the darker expression you crave with the fullness of sound that you require: the S Dark lineup from Zildjian! Courtesy of its unique hammering patterns and exclusive finishing technique, the S Dark series offers more explosiveness than ever without the lingering overtone brightness. Darker in tonality and more complex in sustain with a dry responsiveness that will satisfy the ears of any studio or stage performer, the S Dark supplies an endlessly enviable dark bronze tone that befits genres of all sorts, from heavy metal to funk. Sweetwater drummers have found this S Dark hi-hat pair keeps things quite articulate as you rhythmize, providing a darker foundational wash as you open up the hats for heavier playing.

Zildjian S Dark Hi-hat Cymbals Features:

  • Hi-hat pair provides both detailed rhythms and darker foundational wash when opened up
  • Darker tone with complex sustain provides a change of pace from traditional cymbal brilliance
  • Dry responsiveness remains articulate, explosively projective, and full in sound
  • Exceptional choice for both studio and stage applications
  • Genre-fluid cymbal selection, befitting both softer and heavier ventures alike

Reviews

The perfect X-Hat!
I had been thinking about adding an X-hat to my kit for a while, but I wanted a sound clearly different from my main hats (which are 13" Zildjian K/Zs) to add some rhythm variability due to variety of genres I routinely play. I was originally considering the K Custom Special Dry, but was struggling with dropping $ or more on them. Then lo and behold, Zildjian finally releases these for individual purchase. I just got them today, and wow, are they perfect. They are definitely louder than I expected them to be, but closed sticking is amazing precise and if you open them up at all, I would describe them as "crunchy"…almost like if you added distortion to a hit hat. I plan on using them in a fixed lightly open position during song choruses or other passages where I want some controlled openness to the sound. I wouldn't describe these as dry, and they definitely aren't clangy, they just cut well and don't overwhelm. They would be perfect on a main hi-hat for metal or electronic music, but I think they definitely make for a very cost effective X-hat. For a mid-range, non-B20 cymbal, Zildjian hit it out of the park.
Music background: Country, Rock, Southern Rock, Grunge, Pop

Ask any drummer at Sweetwater, and chances are, we'll tell you that Zildjian represents the gold - or rather bronze - standard in cymbal making. Seriously, Avedis Zildjian may have been trying to make gold, but he did even better when he formulated what's arguably the best cymbal material on the planet. We've played virtually every type of Zildjian cymbal out there, and you won't find anyone at Sweetwater who wouldn't happily recommend their instruments to you, plus their sticks and other accessories are also pretty sweet. Whether you're grabbing your first S or Planet Z pack or have saved up for the A or K series cymbals you've always wanted, Sweetwater is your source for all things Zildjian.
