Smartphone Mount for Your Drum Kit

Smartphones aren’t just for making calls and surfing the internet anymore. They are powerful creative tools that have found their way into practice sessions, recording studios, and onstage. Drummers use smartphones in a performance context in myriad ways — for play-along tutorials, triggering off backing tracks for live performances, and as palm-sized electronic drum machines. Available from Sweetwater, the Gibraltar Smartphone Gooseneck Mount offers secure mounting for your smartphone on a drum stand, rack, or hoop. The scissor-action design expands up to 3" wide — large enough for most smartphones, and its robust and pliable gooseneck, with a 180-degree tilt adjuster, holds its shape once positioned. The Gibraltar Smartphone Gooseneck Mount is a reliable and straightforward way to keep your smartphone accessible and safe during drum performances.

Works as Described

I don't know if the design has changed since some of these negative reviews, but the phone holder works as expected. I have an iPhone 15 max clipped into the holder that is clamped to a Roland rack and it's solid. Exactly what I needed to play along with Bluetooth.

Thanks @MattBrooks!

Solid piece of gear!

Solid gear. I already have an iPad hanging off of my high hat stand to control Ableton. I use this to duck under that and hold an iPhone for my monitor mix. The goose neck is stable, solid and doesn't drift. The phone holder is simple to use and holds phone in place for a long time. Also has a quick release which is great for a quick pack up. Quite happy with it.

Not worth it.

Came with broken screws that have rubber covers that do the holding of cell phone. When made of cheap plastic what can you expect. Thought about sending back but went to the hardware store and bought same screw but made of, guess what, metal!!! Fairly easy to replace. Been looking for sometime and had to settle on this but for $... not nearly worth it. Spanner nuts that are suppose to tighten things in place are very hard to turn bare handed. Could be way more flexable as I find it way too stiff to easily adjust. Clamp isn't the greatest either. But hey, made in Taiwan so profit must have been great.

Fair Product

Got this in today and gave it a go. It is NOT meant for cell phones using a protector like Otter Box. It barely opens wide enough and then sinks under the weight. I will end up using it for my iPod instead.

Initially worked as expected...but broke shortly after

I chalk this up to bad materials choices. The front and back panels of the holder are plastic, held together by screws (the screws are covered by the rubber front panel covering, which aids in gripping the phone). The arms on this device are spring-loaded (you squeeze the bottom extensions to open the upper arms that ultimately hold your phone). Within a couple of uses, one of the screws holding the front and back together stripped out of the plastic, causing one side of the front and back panels to separate enough to release the spring, which disabled the ability of the arms to hold the phone.

I was able to peel back the rubber matting to expose the screw and remove it. Then, I had a similarly-sized flat-top bolt and nut, so I drilled all the way through the back panel, ran the bolt through, applied the nut, tacked back down the rubber matting, and the unit was functional again.

So, the bottom line is that this device does work great as long as the build holds, and that it's easily repaired if you are willing to put in the effort and have the necessary tools and materials. If I were to suggest to the manufacturer a change, it would be to use metal for at LEAST the back panel so the screws won't strip out.
