The Suit Still Fits!

As the S6 races into its fourth decade of life, Seagull celebrates the occasion with a truly remarkable tribute: the S6 Collection 1982 acoustic guitar! This dreadnought channels the design specifications of the original S6 model released in its namesake year while boasting a charming handful of period-correct appointments like its ’80s headstock and original logo. Like every quality Seagull guitar, the S6 Collection 1982 is made from start to finish in Canada using only sustainably sourced wood, including its solid cedar top, wild cherry back and sides, Adirondack spruce fan bracing, silver leaf maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard. The result is balance and projection at its best! With 21 medium frets, a 16-inch fingerboard radius, and a shorter 24.84-inch scale length, this acoustic offers the perfect playing combination of comfort and tradition. Plus, its sealed chrome 14:1 tuners and a Graph Tech nut ensure fabulous intonation and maximum clarity from your strings, making the S6 Collection 1982 from Sweetwater a top performer and champion for the casual picker.

Beautiful tonewoods harvested with care

The S6 Collection 1982 matches a wide range of sustainably harvested tonewoods for a sound that’s incredibly balanced and present, no matter how or what you play. Starting with its Canadian wild cherry back and sides, the body of the guitar is stiffer in nature and helps bring out a bass and midrange that’s tight and projective. Solid cedar makes for a perfectly complementing top wood, supplying resonant sonics rich in overtones. Fan-braced with Adirondack spruce, it’s easy to hear the S6 Collection 1982’s roundness and balanced response, too. Finally, the silver leaf maple neck and rosewood fingerboard combine for a playability that’s precise and articulate with enough sustain to make a statement.

Expert hardware and feel

To match such a well-balanced foundation, Seagull outfitted the S6 Collection 1982 with exceptional hardware that makes the guitar a great player for virtually any occasion. When the bridge matches the fingerboard, as with this acoustic’s Rosewood appointments, you can bet you’re in for maximum richness and purity in terms of sustain. To supplement, its Graph Tech nut removes string buzz and tonal impurities that often arise from uneven natural bone nuts. And with sealed chrome 14:1 tuners, you can expect fantastic intonation that won’t let you down mid-song! From small pub gigs to pavilion performances to local festivals and even the professional spotlight, the S6 Collection 1982 makes a stellar stage companion for many applications.

The S6: four decades and counting

Seagull returned to its roots with the S6 Collection 1982, breathing new life into the historic design that started it all for the company. This dreadnought tribute to the OG S6 checks all the retro boxes, beginning with a period-correct shorter 24.84-inch scale length and classic Seagull 16-inch fingerboard radius. Striking the right balance of length and traditional feel, it’s an excellent way for players of all sizes and stripes to get in on the period-correct action. The ’80s appointments make their way up to headstock as well, complete with the squarer shape of the original model’s headstock and the old-school Seagull logo inlay. What a throwback!

Seagull S6 Collection 1982 Acoustic Guitar Features:

  • A faithful tribute to the original 1982 S6 model that started it all
  • Solid cedar top with Canadian wild cherry back and sides deliver fantastic frequency balance and projection
  • Adirondack spruce fan bracing provides exceptional resonance
  • Silver leaf maple neck with 21-fret rosewood fingerboard create an articulate and well-sustaining playing platform
  • Fingerboard-matching rosewood bridge prioritizes sustain and tonal consistency
  • Graph Tech nut produces a buzz-less, tonally pure response from the strings
  • 14:1 sealed chrome tuners keep your intonation in check wherever you play
  • Shorter 24.84-inch and 16-inch fingerboard radius exude the exact playing feel of the original model
  • Period-correct squarer headstock shape and original Seagull logo inlay add to the retro aesthetic

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

Vintage Gibson vibes on short money

I had a roommate in college in the mid-90s who had an original S6, and it always stuck with me how amazing that guitar sounded and played. I remember thinking it was some super fancy, expensive boutique guitar at first because it was so awesome (until he surprised me by telling me it was a more affordable blue-collar guitar).

Fast forward to 2025, and I found myself wanting a Gibson-scale dreadnought (as IMHO, the shorter scale really does lend itself to a different vibe that's more warm/smooth sounding and slightly more relaxed/easier to play than the usual more ubiquitous 25.5" scale dreads). I found myself playing a friend's 60s Gibson Hummingbird and not wanting to give it back.

So I prepared myself to pony up for a ~$ Gibson... until I tried every one I could find in my area and was still left underwhelmed, not finding a "keeper" among several.

I saw the specs on these and decided to take a chance on one since tracking down old ones (or any used acoustic guitars) can be even more of a roll of the dice than ordering an axe off the internet (depending on how they'd been cared for), so I ordered one.

Keeper, full stop. Hangs with my bro's 60s Hummingbird that's probably worth ~$ or more. No FOMO at all. Do it.

Just got this last week.
The craftsmanship, setup, quality of materials, sound, and ease of play of this guitar is far above its price. This is a great value. I'm very pleased with it. Seagull deserves its reputation.
Awesome Acoustic
Seagull guitars are formidable instruments. The S6 Collection 1982 is no exception. The guitar has great features you can read about. I will tell you that it sounds amazingly full, the short scale neck is easy to play and looks to be made to handle any gig from a bonfire to an arena. I'm sold on Seagulls. Don't let the price fool you, this S6 is an AWESOME GUITAR!!
Music background: Part time professional musician
Really good guitar
This is a really good guitar. Made in Canada too, kinda neat. I write songs on it and record with it at home. Relaxed feel when playing, sounds excellent!
