Reviews

Awesome book! Beautiful, useful text, fun too read!
I bought this because I had just learned about Sylvia Massy and was building up my little home studio. It's awesome! Super well laid out (like a good textbook) and looks cool (like an funky art coffee table book). It has really fun and useful cartoon diagrams drawn by Sylvia. Also lots of interviews with tips and stories from tons of other producers. I have several actual textbooks, but find referencing this one more often. Read it cover to cover!

The Ultimate Studio Lounge Book
Personally I think this book belongs is every studio lounge. It fits that role particularly well in the way it is divided into small tasty chunks, so if you are in the lounge for a quick five or an hour you can read a complete part. (It's physically a bit large for a bathroom reader so keep it out of there.) For the recordist, engineer the organization makes it easy for the creative mind to absorb all the valuable ideas within. There is no long boring text laden pages and plenty of art and pics to engage the ADD/OCD mind as well. :-)

I think the book follows Sylvia's work methodology of getting serious about being creative by doing whatever you got to do to get good recordings including throwing seriousness out the window and having fun. IMHO.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?
Stuart Niven
Sylvia Massey has been an inspiration for everything I've done in the studio as a professional recording engineer. Her work includes recordings that completely changed my musical world. The insights into creative recording techniques Sylvia includes in this book are inspiring, covering excellent ways to capture performances in a way that will make any record shine. I'd recommend this book to anyone serious about exploring and expanding their skills and their craft.
