You Don’t Need to Fear This Reaper

Prepare to take a trip to the underworld with Schecter’s Reaper-7 Elite. An outstanding collection of mahogany, maple, and wenge tonewoods facilitate a mellow acoustic tone, which easily converts to a balanced yet decisive metal output with the help of dual San Andreas humbuckers. When paired with a comfortable, fast-playing “C”-shape neck, this axe provides more than enough notational navigation for shred fanatics, tone chasers, and metalheads alike. Slap on the Reaper-7 Elite’s Hipshot 7-string multi-scale bridge and Grip-Lock tuners, and you’ll be able to explore the tonal plane for hours without losing a hint of perfect intonation. Whether you plan to perform punk, metal, or classic rock, the Reaper-7 Elite won’t go quietly.

Unadulterated tonewood performance

Khaya African mahogany, wenge, and ebony — it’s not a tonewood marriage that you see every day. However, rest assured, the Reaper-7 Elite takes full advantage of this combo’s sonic abilities. While the mahogany body provides a relatively tight and mellow audial foundation, its wenge neck comes back to bite with a bright midrange tone, balancing out the Reaper-7 Elite’s sound to a T. Although some players might prefer to cut through the Reaper’s powerful passive electronics system, Sweetwater guitarists have reported that playing this axe alone provides more than enough reason never to let go.

It’s all in the neck

The Reaper-7 Elite’s wenge neck oozes fast-action maneuverability. Providing a sleek satin finish on its ultra-thin “C”-shape neck profile, this axe’s effortless navigation stands out among a score of other contemporary instruments. Its neck-through joint, in tandem with a double-cut body shape, also means you can get up close and personal with higher frets, making skull-splitting leads and upper-note bends as easy as pie. And thanks to a multi-scale fretboard, navigating to each and every fret is easily done without having to contort to extreme heights. Better yet, you’ll benefit from the neck’s added structural integrity, which provides extra intonation support and the confidence that your guitar will remain in stable condition after years of extensive use.

USA SA Humbuckers pump out raw metal tone

A set of onboard San Andreas humbuckers transform the Reaper-7 Elite into a versatile metal powerhouse. Heavy and articulate, this hot duo provides strong mids and highs while exhibiting dense low-end drive. This pickup lot's high-gain and attack are perfect for traditional metal rhythms and leads, and their exquisite tonal balance makes all that power emerge in stunning clarity. Looking to take control for yourself? No problem: slice through any sound these beauties have to offer by way of a 3-way pickup selector switch and dual push-pull volume and tone knobs.

Schecter Reaper-7 Elite Multi-scale Electric Guitar Features:

  • 7-string multi-scale electric guitar with decisive styling and appointments

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Love-Hate Relationship

Just like the title says, I have a love hate relationship with this guitar.

First, the love. It's gorgeous, plain and simple. Sweetwater allowing you to pick the one with the finish you want was just the icing on the cake. Now that it has been setup it basically plays itself. The tuning stability is stellar, ergonomics are great even if they take some getting used to (referring to the fanned fret). Also, the neck on this is possibly the smoothest thing I've ever touched in my life. Superb in that regard.

Now, the hate. The fit and finish of a guitar this price left A LOT to be desired. The frets were so uneven you couldn't play past the 5th if you wanted to hear anything other than a world of buzzing. The nut looked like it was cut by a 3 year old, or me if I had attempted it.The A string tuner was very crooked in comparison to the rest, and even after fixing it they all are still not even in height nor distance between each other. Also, for some reason the guitar wants to intonate REALLY flat, even in 7 string standard where I keep it. Like, so flat some of the saddles nearly come off the bridge. I had to order longer saddle screws just to make it work. Finally, the truss rod is seated so deep in its channel that even my tech had issues getting it set right. I'd actually like to add a bit more relief, but I can't get an Allen key in there to make the adjustment.

Now, the only "meh" I have is the pickups. They sound great, I just like mine with a bit more punch. Definitely plan on swapping them out.

Overall, this is a good guitar. The framework and materials are great, but the craftsmanship leaves something to be desired. I would personally prefer if it had just been 26.5' scale straight across, but the multi scale isn't bad at all. The only real concern I have with the guitar is the truss rod. That thing is really in there deep, and If I can't make adjustments to it down the road then this turns into some very expensive wall art since it's neck thru. My knee-jerk reaction was to return or sell it, but I'm going to give it a chance. After having a really bad experience with the Schecter Am-7 this just solidifies my belief that Schecter isn't something I can blindly buy without concern anymore and that they need to watch their QC.

Also, shoutout to my Sweetwater rep Logan for putting up with me being an absolute pain during the purchasing process. Sorry for being so difficult Logan, you the best!
