Traditional Tube Tone Meets Modern Flexibility

Built with pure vintage vibes in mind, the ENGL Ravager IR brilliantly dishes out traditional tube-driven tone with modern output controls in a space-saving (and back-saving!) form. This 2-channel amp, encased in a roadworthy metal frame, houses a sonically versatile circuit consisting of ECC83 preamp tubes and a pair of EL84 power amp tubes to deliver 20 watts of authentic tube tone that’s ready to rock the house. Playing in a smaller venue or needing extra saturation at lower volumes? Power selection can be dialed down to 5 watts and 1 watt, giving you delightful, cranked tube tone at any volume level. Moreover, you’ll enjoy high-quality, pro-grade tone without the need for an external speaker cabinet, courtesy of the built-in IR Loader and XLR/Headphone outputs. Equally primed for the stage, your home studio, or even your coffee table, the Ravager IR is your next amplifier companion for wherever your journey takes you.

Power and output that work with you

Regardless of your performance situation, the Ravager IR adapts to your evolving needs as a player. Sweetwater’s gigging guitarists are quick to note the usefulness of the Power Soak. With 20-watt, 5-watt, and 1-watt options, the Ravager IR handles arena rock volume and subdued power with equal aplomb. Don’t want to fuss around with finding the “sweet spot” during mic placement? The built-in IR loader has four available IRs to choose from (three of them can be replaced with your own favorite IRs via USB), and with the XLR balanced output, you get cab-and-mic sounds direct to any live console or recording interface — no additional miking needed. When you reach “quiet time” at home and inspiration strikes, flip the Power Soak to the “Speaker Off” position and plug in your headphones. You’ll enjoy the same great tone from the Ravager IR as you would plugging straight into a mixing console.

Pure tube-driven tone

All the modern features of the Ravager IR, such as the Power Soak and IR Loader, offer the flexibility needed for all your musical endeavors, but at its core, this is a traditional tube head. The Ravager IR’s analog path of ECC83/12AX7 and EL84 tubes delivers authentic, touch-sensitive tone, offering everything from vintage warmth to modern metal meltdown. Effortlessly dial in your best tones with the shared 3-band EQ and independent Clean and Lead Gain controls, ranging from sparkling cleans to classic rock-infused grit. Moreover, the responsiveness of the traditional tube circuitry also makes the Ravager IR a great pedal platform for your favorite stompboxes.

ENGL Ravager IR Features:

  • All analog, 20W tube-driven amp head infused with modern direct outputs in a lightweight, portable size
  • ECC83/12AX7 preamp tubes and EL84 power tubes deliver a blend of warmth and punch to your tone
  • 2 channels offer a wide scope of tone, from crystalline cleans, mid-gain saturation, and blistering high gain
  • Built-in Power Soak adjusts power output from 20W to 5W to 1W, as well as disables the speaker output to adjust to any environment
  • Headphone output allows for silent practicing without a separate speaker cabinet
  • XLR output with IR loader enables direct-to-console cab tone for any recording or live scenario
  • USB connectivity manages 3 user-configurable IR slots
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

Wow!
This thing is crazy cool. Comes with 1 IR loaded and 3 IR slots for your own which I did load. The one that comes with it sounds great. It's loud but if I need more I run it through my Orange Pedal Baby. Couldn't be Happier.

Living Room Legend Approved!! : ENGL Ravager IR 20

After 6 years of playing serious again, I finally ditched the Katana Artist 2 and all its digital fizz for the real deal: the ENGL Ravager IR 20 with the matching 2x12 horizontal cab. And holy hell… this thing absolutely slays.

The power soak is fantastic — I can get full tube tone at any volume — but let's be honest, once it's "soaking" more than halfway, my music room turns into a sauna. Worth it. Even when it's dialed back, it's still loud and has way more punch than any modeler or combo I've tried. For all the living room legends like me, this amp delivers the full bottom end you've been missing if you're stuck on digital or smaller amps.

The new voicing on the Ravager is killer. It's like a Fireball, but less ice-picky and way more usable in a home setup. The low end is tight but huge, the mids are aggressive without being honky, and the top end cuts without tearing your ears off. Paired with the ENGL 2x12 loaded with V30s, it's just massive.

I'm running my PRS with 85/15s into a Valeton GP-200 for boosts, EQ, and effects (amp/cab sims off), and the Ravager eats it alive. Palm mutes stay tight, leads sing, cleans sparkle way better than I expected, and the whole rig just responds to every little tweak I throw at it. No more endless pedal and patch scrolling — just plug in, crank it, and play.

Bottom line: this amp has made me stop overthinking gear and actually enjoy playing again. It gives me the real-deal amp feel I've been chasing, without the fizz or flub. If you're on the fence, stop wasting time — this is the amp that makes living room legends feel like rock stars.

Music background: Played when I was young, took 25 years off to do grown up stuff, back playing for 6 years now, metal, rock, local gigs.
My first "real" amp
Sure, it's a lunchbox amp. Sure, it's not made in germany. I like it anyways - it has the sound I've always been looking for that I just couldn't get out of combo amp (I've only owned a monoprice tube amp and a Boss Katana 2). I am tempted to kick it on frequently, and have been having a ton of fun exploring new tone options I didn't have access to before - everything I play sounds better!

I don't need anything super loud because I don't perform, so this suits my needs perfectly.

I have no comparisons to other lunchbox amps to offer, however I really am pleased with this product - no regrets, loving it!
