Full-featured Compact Bass Combo

Scores of discerning bass players rely on Ashdown amplifiers like the Rootmaster bass combo for reliable tone and rock-solid performance. The 500-watt Rootmaster packs a five-band EQ, overdrive, a subharmonic generator, and onboard compression into a compact cabinet with two powerful 10" speakers for endless tweaking and tonal flexibility for the stage and studio. The Rootmaster makes a great rig for gigging and practice: an XLR output lets you run straight out of the amp into a soundboard without a separate DI box, and a separate input with Line Mix level control lets you crank up backing tracks and jam along.

An EQ built for tone tweakers

Ashdown bass amplifiers are known for their flexible equalizers. The Rootmaster RM500C210 EVO II has a five-band EQ specially voiced for bass guitar, with bands at 1.5kHz and 240Hz to tame growly mids and muddy low end, along with traditional bass, middle, and treble controls for broadband sculpting.

One-knob overdrive, compression, and subharmonics to shape your sound

A flexible EQ is only half of the tone-shaping power the Rootmaster has to offer. Live and studio musicians are sure to appreciate the simple one-knob compressor for adding extra punch and smoothing out leads. A flexible overdrive control lets you dirty up your sound with subtle grit to full-on fuzz. And for floor-shaking bass, you can dial in the Rootmaster's onboard subharmonics generator for an instant boost in low-end resonance.

Ashdown delivers the modern bass sound

With an artist roster that has included Adam Clayton of U2, James Jamerson Jr., and John Entwistle of The Who, Ashdown is responsible for shaping the sound of the modern bass. Ashdown amps serve up punchy dynamics with powerful, controlled lows and modern sheen. Sweetwater bassists like Ashdown amps for their durability to stand up to tour-grade abuse. Check out the Rootmaster for an amp with tones and features that won't let you down on the road or in the studio.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Double Wow.

I had previously purchased an Ampeg combo with a powered sub. I could NOT get the tone I wanted, so I returned it. My "purchase supervisor",Josh and I discussed several options. When we discussed the Ashdown,, Josh stated that he would recommend this amp every day and twice on Sunday. He was right. Bottom line: this amp does everything I want it to, and more. One of my favorite features is the VU meter. It allows you to use maximum gain without clipping. Clearly a winner.

Perfect Fit

I needed a new bass amp for the studio, and it had to have enough smack to take it out on small gigs from time to time. This one definitely fills both needs. Very punchy, the tone stack is really versatile, and there's enough volume for anything on stage. When we ran it through the FOH it sounded enormous. All of this in an easy to carry around package. Many thanks as always to Chris Goldbach at Sweetwater for all of his help through the years, he is the best.

Awesome Amp!

I was looking for a replacement for my 15 yr old Workingman’s 12 and wanted to go with a 2x10 set up. Tried the Ampeg and Fender amps, but after speaking with Derek S. I decided to go with the Ashdown. I do NOT regret that decision. The 2-10s handle the low B like a champ. The overdrive is perfect, adjustable from mild to face melting. I have only messed with the compression a little, but it seems to be subtle and doesn’t kill tone. The subharmonic boost is a nice option that fills up the room with a little rumble. One of my favorite settings is leaving the EQ flat and using the boost button. This gives an 8dB boost at 50Hz and 10dB boost at 10KHz. The 5-band EQ lets you dial in a perfect tone, but the boost button gives a quick scooped EQ for jamming. I couldn’t find it anywhere in documentation, but my guess is around 350W into the internal speakers (the norm for 500W amps, and my ears agree). The manual says 507W into 4 Ohms.

This amp is loud and has an awesome sound!
