The best 5B stick Promark has
Promark's original Classic Forward 5B sticks are very popular, and although they do have their perks for other drummers, I thought they tend to lack agility and rebound, which I've realized is essential for drummers seeking wanting both force and speed. As a rock and metal drummer who's accustomed to a strong wrist whip, but implements a lot of finesse and ghost notes into my playing, I found the Forward 5B's added weight and lesser rebound counterproductive, especially considering that for a stick where the diameter borders on a 5A for other stick companies, the thicker taper made the stick feel, although powerful, lacking in speed and bounce, and like I was lugging around the sticks.

In contrast, the Rebound 5B sticks feel like a perfect fit. Their slightly under .6" diameter and extended taper enhanced my rebound without feeling cumbersome or uncontrollable — in fact, I could feel my ghost notes becoming more controllable and defined — making it easier to transition from drum to drum. This design also preserved my forward whip without needing any additional grip strength or forceful strokes. The slightly thicker diameter than the Forward 5B also allowed for a more relaxed grip, alleviating a lot of additional force on my thinner cymbals, but still preserving that power you'd want from a 5B stick. Additionally, the acorn tip and tapered shoulder design enriched the warmth on my toms and to the bell and body of my 23" K Sweet Ride respectively, adding a satisfying mixture of both depth and clarity, something I felt was lacking in the oval tips of the Forward 5B sticks.

To keep it short, the Rebound 5B sticks excel in providing the powerful impact expected from 5B sticks, along with the finesse needed for speed and comfort. No stick has even felt like such a natural extension of my arms.

Finesse, speed, AND power
As a life long 5B player from various brands, I didn't think there could be yet another version on the market that would give my current sticks a run for their money. Well I was wrong. The Pro-Mark Select Balance Rebound 5B (what a mouthful) is an amazing feeling stick. The rebound, like the name implies, is massive and essentially effortless. This makes faster singles a bit easier for my hands. The large acorn tip adds power and clarity to each stroke around the toms and cymbals. Rim shots, rolls, fills, back beats, and blast beats are all effortless with these. I'll be honest I've never been big into Pro-Mark, but that has changed for me with this model!
