A Vintage-inspired Dirty 30s Parlor

The Dirty 30s Series 9 Parlor Acoustic from Recording King is an update of a classic acoustic guitar with strong vintage stylings. The Series 9 Parlor sports a true parlor-size body with a shortened fingerboard scale that’s perfect for young beginners and on-the-go players. A whitewood body paired with a premium Sitka spruce top delivers bold foundational tone shaped to perfection by parlor curves and a modern X bracing system crafted from spruce. Sweetwater players love how easy it is to take this guitar on the go, in addition to how expressive it is for fingerpicking and recording. If you’re looking for a piece of the past that’s guaranteed to last, then check out the Series 9 Parlor from Recording King!

Built for comfort

Recording King prioritizes authenticity and sourced this Dirty 30s acoustic guitar's dimensions from a historic “no-logo” parlor made in early 20th-century Chicago. It’s built for comfort with a number of upscale features and modern touches that improve playability without compromising aesthetic. Shapely true parlor dimensions ensures vintage articulation and playability that’s perfect for travel, gigs, and display. Meanwhile, a comfortable mahogany neck and ovangkol fingerboard ensure great playability whether you’re strumming cowboy chords or plucking intricate melodies. This instrument also features a “Thin C” neck carve, which makes fretting feel natural and easy up and down the neck.

Parlor power

Despite its slim size, Recording King went to great lengths to ensure this guitar has great volume and projection. The Dirty 30s Series 9 Parlor features a powerful Sitka spruce top that adds volume and depth; this species of spruce is an acoustic guitar classic, and a common feature on much pricier acoustic guitars. Inside, designers swapped inferior 20th-century parlor “ladder bracing” for modern X-bracing crafted for Sitka spruce. This bracing ensures forceful projection, even response, and balanced tone across highs, mids, and lows. Also onboard are a bone nut and saddle that outperform less expensive components, resulting in improved and purer tone.

Recording King: retro refreshed

The landmark Recording King brand traces its origins back to 1930s building contracts with the retail titan Montgomery Ward. During the early days of radio and recorded music, affordable but well-crafted Recording King guitars, banjos, and resonators swept across the nation far and wide. Now revived, Recording King hearkens back to those early days of production-line American instruments built for pros and budding musicians alike. Nearly a century later, these retro models take their cues from vintage designs for results that look and sound like their 1930s counterparts.

Recording King Dirty 30s Series 9 Parlor Acoustic Guitar Features:

  • Premium Sitka spruce top infuses playing with warmth, volume, and power
  • True parlor-size body with a 24-inch scale for comfortable playing and easy transportation
  • Back and sides made from whitewood with a satin finish yield articulate, old-school character
  • Neck built from mahogany with a speedy “Thin C” profile makes navigating the fingerboard a breeze
  • Dovetail neck joint for strong resonance and better tone
  • Short-scale ovangkol fingerboard with 19 frets and Harmonella Stencil inlays
  • Upscale hardware including bridge made from ovangkol and nut and saddle made from bone enrich tone and performance
  • Cross-lap X-bracing make from Sitka spruce pumps up volume and resonance
  • Vintage-style nickel tuners for tuning stability with a touch of beauty

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!
