Two of Brad's Favorite Tones in One Pedal

Wampler Pedals and Brad Paisley's relationship goes way back to Wampler's long-since-discontinued Underdog Overdrive. That's why Wampler is bringing back the Underdog circuit in the great-sounding and flexible Paisley Drive Deluxe. Inside this pedal, you'll find the Paisley drive you know and love, as well as the Underdog, both individually selectable. But the real magic comes when you stack the circuits and take advantage of its ground-breaking signal routing possibilities. If you want Brad's tone on your board, the Wampler Paisley Drive Deluxe is the way to get it.

Channel 1: Underdog overdrive

Brad Paisley's first Wampler addiction was to the Underdog overdrive. Engineered to offer the sound of one of Nashville's most popular stompboxes, but with way more tonal control, the Underdog quickly found its way to Brad's board and has been there on and off ever since. Its full 3-band EQ and gain-boosting fat switch ensure everything from transparent grit to a harmonically rich lead tone are effortlessly accessible. Original units of this pedal are hard to find. Grab the Paisley Drive Deluxe from Sweetwater, and you'll nail the original's tone and much more.

Channel 2: Paisley Drive

In the design of the Wampler Paisley Drive pedal, Brad Paisley worked with Brian Wampler to meet his tall set of requirements. The Paisley Drive starts off clean but serves up beefy crunch when you lean into it. It puts a bit of hair on your tone and deploys plenty of grind when you need it, delivering beautifully fluid tone when you're soloing. If you want satisfying, responsive overdrive that sounds like a tube amp while letting the true character of your guitar come through, channel 2 is where you'll find it.

Inventive signal routing options

Not only is the Paisley Drive Deluxe a magnificent-sounding overdrive from one of the most respected players in the world, but it boasts a collection of signal-routing options that makes it ideal for any guitar rig. First off, each channel features its own input and output, allowing you to access either channel individually from your pedal switcher-based rig. The channels can also be stacked to add yet another great-sounding drive to your setup. And the onboard stacking order switch lets you choose which circuit is pushing the other.

Wampler Paisley Drive Deluxe Dual Overdrive Pedal Features:

  • Dual-overdrive pedal designed for Brad Paisley
  • Channel1 replicates Wampler's discontinued Underdog overdrive
  • Channel 2 is the famed Paisley overdrive
  • Both channels are individually selectable
  • Stacking order switch opens even more tonal options
  • Each channel can be routed individually to your pedal switcher

Awesome Pedal!!

I am a big fan of Brad Paisley although I don't play his music - and just because his name is on it doesn't mean this pedal will give you his tone!! I bought this pedal for the Underdog circuit, wanting something with a lot of gain but warm…and it absolutely does this very well.

The fact that this pedal is literally two different drives in one and operates that way makes this thing very versatile.

I run this pedal with the Paisley drive going into the Underdog side - and all of that behind a Tube Screamer style pedal. So TS>PD>UD. I find myself using the underdog with the gain set a little higher and use it really by itself - it packs enough punch on its own and for me is perfect for something needing a good warm driven sound. I'll stack the TS and PD together and get a really good rocking tones for playing GnR or some other 80's stuff.

Would highly recommend!! Thinking about getting another to build an A and B rig!!

Listen to Your Elders

Like another review, I can tell you that I have wasted TONS of money on inferior gear, from guitars to effects. Let me advise that price DOES matter when it comes to effect pedals. I've spent more money than I want to talk about on inferior pedals because I wasn't willing to pay for an expensive one. My advice, take you're time and save for a good pedal. As far as the Paisley Overdrive, it will do EVERYTHING you need if you have a good amplifier. Stacking tones is key.

Absolute Tone King

I've played in bands since the early 1980s. I've made some great gear decisions over the years, but I've made exponentially more bad decisions. The money I've wasted is probably double what my present gear is worth. Chasing a certain tone can cost you a fortune - I've been there, but I've got great news. The Wampler Paisley Drive Deluxe will solve the lion's share of your tone problems. I've owned mine for two years of drops, hauls, spills, and drools (my boxer likes listening to me practice). This thing is rock solid as you'd expect from Wampler. It's easier to get great tone than any pedal I've owned and versatile beyond explanation if you own several guitars. With my current settings, I can go from a very good Brad Paisley tone on my Telecaster to a passable Ian Thornley/Big Wreck tone on my PRS simply by switching to the lead channel on my Classic 50 set with a little gain. Don't mess around with cheaper pedals that won't satisfy, step up to the Wampler.

Great.

I don't often write reviews, but this is one sweet piece of gear. It is replacing a handful of other pedals on my board. Both sides are very meaty, without losing transparency. My previous experience has been you can have one of those qualities in a pedal at a time, not both. Paisley side can "just enough" and then some for most things when actual clean won't cut it, while the Underdog side really can pack a wallop. Add one to the other and it is pretty amazing how much gain you have on tap. The ability to stack the ODs in either order, I/O independently, and run in 9v or 18v mode makes this thing super versatile. My status as a big fan of the artist himself aside, I got this for a fairly specific goal: to get my Duncan humbucker equipped Charvels to sound anywhere near convincing in split mode. Honestly didn't think it was going to be possible until this bad boy came along. Of course, sounds insanely great with the standard Tele too haha.

Unicorn

I'm just beginning to use this pedal, but so far I am blown away by the "Underdog" channel. This is the round overdrive sound I have been searching for for 20 years. It gives you a sweet growl at any volume. The Paisley Channel has a nice tight drive that I find is nice paired with and an already dirty tone. I am running 2 into 1 using the Paisley channel as a lead boost. This pedal is a great investment and gives the user a multitude of options. Rig: Strat>Tuner>Comp>Wah>Paisley Deluxe>Black '65>Princeton Reverb.
