Versatile Power Amplifier with Built-in PA Processing

Yamaha's PX10 dual-channel Class D power amplifier gives you more than great-sounding amplification. It packs powerful built-in processing that would normally require an external PA management processing. We're talking onboard equalization for fine-tuning outputs, crossovers for integrating subs and fills, delays for correcting phase issues in large rigs, and a speaker-saving limiter. Factor in stellar sound quality, easy control via the LCD display, and its ultra-light weight, and it's clear the Yamaha PX10 stands out among power amps in its class.

Achieve better live sound with less gear thanks to built-in PA management

Live sound engineers at Sweetwater generally turn to dedicated speaker management processors for fine-tuning their PA systems. That's why we're pleased to see the Yamaha PX series of power amps offer a ton of powerful processing built right in. Fine-tune output channels with equalization, and add limiting to protect your speakers from dangerous signal spikes. Dial in crossovers to integrate subwoofers and fill speakers. Use the built-in delay network to ensure phase coherency across all speakers in larger rigs. And all of these advanced features are easily accessible from the LCD display.

Yamaha PX10 Dual-channel Class D Power Amplifier Features:
  • Dual-channel Class D power amplifier with built-in PA management processing
  • Connectivity includes XLR and TRS inputs, and speakON, binding post, and phono outputs
  • Built-in PA management tools like EQ, limiting, delays, crossovers, and filters
  • LCD display for easy navigation of advanced features
Drive your live sound rig with confidence, with the Yamaha PX10 dual-channel power amp.
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

Works great!
Needed a replacement for our old amp--this one works great!
Yamaha PX10
We got this for our custom built tower speakers in our studio, and I have to admit that they"ve never sounded better than they do now. Amazingly clean power, and lots of it!
Awesome sounds
This amplifier is simply the best!! Nice clean sound and a lot of power.
Run so cool. I love this amplifier!!
Great Value
great value and Yamaha quality. hard to find reviews on these, so was hesitant to purchase at such a low price, but no problems so far and very happy. My only comment would be to beware that this does not have a customization parametric EQ. Some of the literature mentions EQ processing, but this only applies factory-preset EQ curves to a library of Yamaha speakers. The literature doesn't lie, but it could be confusing if you don't read carefully.
A step back for Yamaha
The PX10 is a very good Class D output stage power amplifier. It is powerful enough for most applications and is built to last. The problem is that it does not sound anywhere near as good as the class AB P7000S it replaced late last year.
Class D brings efficiency and light weight to the table. That's a good thing for frail men with electric bills they struggle paying. But give me the ultra clean delivery and goose bump realism of a stellar class AB design any day, thank you. I'll worry about the weight and cost to operate it.
The power rating is also a concern. It will not deliver 1000/1200 watts rms continuously into 8/4ohm loads. It will for an extremely short 20 millisecond or so duration. That's less than a cymbal crash and then wait for the power supply and output stage to recharge and recover. I expect the FTC to intervene eventually over the hyper inflated power ratings we are seeing from the "high headroom" amplifiers everywhere. It happened in 1972 and must happen again.
I measured 321 watts rms continuous one channel driven from 20-20,000 Hz with an easy 4 ohm resistive load and 279 watts into 8 ohms, same, in my lab. Hang a nasty complex crossover of of its outputs and those figures will drop like a brick. My PX10 did not like a KEF Q300/Boston A26 paralleld monitor pair, emitting clicks and high frequency pops at only 312 watts with what is really not a tough load, albeit in the 3 ohm reactive area at some frequencies. The PX10 and most of its rivals simply do not sound as powerful as their ratings suggest. You want slam? You'll need what high end home amplifiers promise, but at far higher prices.
If you take it easy the PX10 will serve you with ok sound, although it is dry, lacking in realistic sounding high frequencies and loose, nowhere near tight bass from the low damping factor of its class D design.
Those lossy, undersized series output inductors beneath the brushed aluminum shielding box can only hide for so long.
I'm very surprised Yamaha followed up the P7000s with the PX10. I know for a fact that Yamaha was losing money on every expensive, premium part filled 7000 it built, after a dozen years of production during a time of high inflation.
Perhaps they simply should have just raised the price and left well enough alone.
But then I have yet to meet a pro sound player as concerned about absolute sonic purity and realism as I have been since I jumped on board in 1972.
And that my friends is why Yamaha will sell every PX10 it builds.
