This cajon is equipped with a link input intended for use with other Meinl instruments with pickups. The link signal gets routed through the cajon's controls, enabling extra sound shaping before both signals get sent to a single amplifier. Using the link input, this cajon can eliminate the need for extra amplifiers, decrease a group's stage footprint, and lend a much cleaner visual look to a stage setup. An elegant solution for keeping it on your lap

I'm enjoying this instrument. I play it with my acoustic trio and with other acoustic collaborators. I'm able to fill in for parts that suggest rock rhythms (bass/snare sound) to Latin percussion (congas/bongos/timbales) and things between. Acoustically, it isn't as lively as my otherwise mechanically identical non-pickup walnut slaptop cajon, but it performs well plugged in. Resonance and responsiveness seem to improve with playing time (hard to prove scientifically, but this is my impression). The snare "wings", in particular, seemed stiffer when I first received the instrument but are more lively now, several weeks later. I use an acoustic guitar preamp/DI for additional tone shaping and control before feeding the signal to the PA. I struggled a bit to keep it from sliding off my lap while playing. A shorter chair or drum throne can help but it doesn't help stage presence to nearly squat while performing. I found that a simple strap (like a very large belt for one's trousers) of 1-inch wide nylon webbing did the trick to keep the cajon securely on my lap, giving me much better confidence to play out. I could even play the cajon while sitting on a tall stool. I later added a pair of guitar strap buttons to the outer sides of the top to allow me to use a guitar strap around my waist instead - it think that this solution looks more "pro". As the cajon's body is made of MDF (can be tricky to anchor regular wood screws into), I used bolts rather than screws to fasten the strap buttons securely.

A great little Cajon for Practice

I am a bass player and I primarily use this for rhythm and groove training, and in this capacity it works very well, it does carry a deep resonating bass and the snare pops, but the feature I find most interesting is when you put it through pedals. It gives it pitch.I attached a demo video, I am not as good and Nick D'Virgilio but there it is anyway :D.

Turbo Laptop Cajon

I purchased this cajon from Sweetwater to play with a small acoustic group. I had been playing a traditional cajon and my back was suffering for it. Not only did this cajon solve my back issue, it sounds great. As an old music teacher I can highly recommend it. It is a great value and incredibly fun to play!

Phenomenal Drum!

I bought this Turbo Slaptop Cajon for fun, portable drumming. I have a full drum set, but I need to downsize and have something that is easy to take to a jam session. This is it! It functions okay when unamped, but to really get the versatility of the sound, connect it to an amp. I have a Fishman Loudbox Artist, and when I plug this into it, WOW! It will pick up slaps, finger rolls, or stokes. You have at least four sounds: bass in the middle, Tom toms off middle, snares along the two side edges, and a slap-snare (almost like rim-shot) near the corner edge. It has rich tone, is light weight, and you don't have to lean over to play it, because it rests like bongos between your legs. Unbelievable sound and capability when plugged into amp. Fun to just pick up and play. 5 + Stars. If you plan to haul it around you should buy the case too.

Awesome and tons of fun

This thing is totally fun!
The espresso color is absolutely beautiful, and the fact that it has an instrument cable output is awesome. you can plug this right into a PA and add a little reverb. It was a big hit with the crowd. my band used this for an acoustic song in between our hard rock electric set.

Highly recommend!
