Telescoping Boom Mic Stand with Locking Tripod Base

The latest in Ultimate Support's stalwart stage and studio microphone stands is the Pro Series Extreme collection. These stands blend the durability of the Pro Series with some of the best features across the Ultimate Support catalog: features like easy-grip Quarter Turn Clutches, upward-folding locking tripod bases, and ultra-durable 1" steel tubing. Each of these lifetime-guaranteed mic stands is overbuilt for stage convenience and session dependability. So whether you're outfitting your studio or packing in gear for the gig, you can expect pro performance and a lifetime of worry-free setup from Ultimate Support Pro Series Extreme microphone stands — available now through Sweetwater.

What's in Pro Series Extreme Mic Stands?

Locking fold-up tripod bases

Tripod bases that lock in both closed or open positions mean Pro Series Extreme mic stands are unflappable in a performance setting and a snap to haul from the van to the session. The legs fold upward, rather than downward, to minimize space requirements in transit — perfect for cramped cargo.

Oversized Quarter Turn Clutches

Oversized grips on Ultimate Support's patented Quarter Turn Clutch make Pro Series Extreme mic stands some of the quickest and easiest to adjust. The name says it all: give the ergonomic grip a quarter-twist to unlock, then lock it back in for rock-solid support.

Ultra-strong construction

With their 1" diameter steel tubing, solid metal legs, and die-cast aluminum bases, Pro Series Extreme microphone stands are some of the toughest in the market. Long-lasting, heavy-duty powder coat finishes keep your Pro Series Extreme stands looking new amid the rigors of the road. One spin with one of these stands, and it's little wonder why each model is guaranteed for life.

One-touch boom adjustments

Telescoping boom models allow you to tilt, pan, rotate, and retract/extend the main boom by twisting a single knob. The secondary boom is controlled by a quick-release lever that's perfect for dialing in your microphone's sweet spot.

Ultimate Support Pro Series Extreme 17884 Telescoping Boom Microphone Stand Features:

  • Stout 1" diameter steel tubing
  • Solid metal legs lock in up and down positions
  • Die-cast aluminum base

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

GREAT MIC STAND!

I have 2 of these, one for over 2 years. They have no problem holding up AKG P420s.

Don't understand the various complaints - rock solid for me

I go through mic stands like water. When I'm singing, whether at a piano, keyboard or guitar, it is an ergonomic disaster as my stands would always slip and I'd be constantly adjusting it throughout my performance. My sales engineer, Patrick, recommended this one and it's been a godsend. It actually stays put for the entire performance and I love how the legs fold up, and they stay put as well.

I would absolutely buy more of these as the need arises.

Ultimate Support is Slipping...

I have used Ultimate Support since 1993. I have owned Speaker Stands, Lighting rigs and have always spent the extra money knowing Ultimate guaranteed/warrantied their products. I have replace clutches and other parts over the years with no trouble.

When it came time to purchase a "good" mic stand that would last, Ultimate Support went to the top of my list. I ordered one for the cost of three cheapie stands. I was sure this would be the professional stand that would last twenty years or more. I was wrong.

My expectations were dashed when I noticed the stand wobbling during a performance. My cheapie stands never wobbled. It finally became unusable when it started to crack me in the teeth. I contacted Ultimate Support and they sent me a replacement. As soon as it got out of the box I could see the same problem on the replacement. I believe it is a bad design.

I am also having trouble with my guitar stands. The legs won't lock and guitars were dropping to the floor. What happened to the design quality of Ultimate Support?

I gave two stars because the boom is fantastic. I see other reviews claim the parts wear easily. I have not had an issue with the boom (although the connection to the stand seems like it could snap if something shifted during travel).

You should know that this is a heavy stand. Twice the weight of the cheapie stands. I have been performing with the cheapie stands only for three years now and the Ultimate Support stays home in the studio. As heavy duty as it appears to be, it is unreliable and for my use only fit for permanent installation - with a slight wobble.

Good Idea Poor Execution

It is a heavy duty stand and I like the idea of the one knob adjustment but in practice this thing just doesn't work. The boom can't be tightened enough to keep from slowly sagging. I'm forced to grab the boom and push it back up every few minutes. The rest of the stand seems to work pretty well but the poor boom just kills the fun...

Ultimate Junk

So first off. I am with a regional touring act and we play venues all over the Northeast. And we have professional cases where mostly everything we use is on wheels. This includes our stands case. Not only are the stands protected, but each stand slides into a protective environment within the case itself. That way they do not bang into each other when traveling.

With that said. I have not been so DISPLEASED with a product! The old boom was an absolute nightmare, and this new re-designed one is not much better. There is so much plastic in load barring/wearing areas on this boom that its no wonder how quickly it breaks down.
As for the new re-designed tripod leg system. OMG! What a joke. Plastic cams that wear out within 3 months of use. Now every replacement I have been given with that base, no longer works. The stands WILL NOT stay upright!

I remember talking with an Ultimate Support rep at GearFest in 2017 about the original boom, and how bad it was. He acknowledged that it was a bad design and how much better the re-design was going to be. It sounded promising. But the real point of this story is. He knew, like amny others at Ultimate Support that it was a manufacture/internal design issue and thought that Ultimate Support should offer some kind of buy back so that customers that received these horribly manufactured booms would be able to purchase the new ones at a discounted rate. Well, needless to say. They did not do this. But at least my awesome Sweetwater rep Dave Brow (ext.1289) discounted the ones I had to purchase to replace the poorly designed booms.

I still do not know to this day what made me stay with a company like Ultimate Support, when that is the exact opposite of what do for there customers.

I now have approximately 18 stands that need to be replaced, AGAIN! Sweetwater has been incredibly gracious in offering a return with in-house credit. I am in the middle of doing this, then purchasing another line of stand. Possibly K&M.

I will NEVER again buy another piece of Ultimate Supports product line.
