Faster and More Accurate Tuning

Graph Tech Ratio Locking Tuners allow you to tune your guitar more quickly and accurately than conventional designs. Each tuner in the set sports a custom gear ratio that makes each machine head react the same — roughly one full turn per whole tone. Because each string reacts the same, not only is tuning a more pleasant experience, but nailing alternate tunings is a much faster process. Graph Tech's mission statement is "to improve your playing experience." And that's exactly what Graph Tech Ratio Locking Tuners deliver.

Graph Tech's Ratio technology

Though it's a simple idea, Graph Tech's Ratio technology completely changes the way you tune your guitar. All six tuners are outfitted with gear ratios that ensure you attain the same response from your wound low E string as you do your unwound high E. No matter what string you are tuning, you'll notice that one full turn of the tuner equates to roughly one whole tone pitch change. The Ratio technology makes nailing your pitch much easier and faster. And you'll love how fast it is to get to Drop D and other alternate tunings.

Easy installation with no drilling

One of the greatest benefits of the Ratio system is that each tuner installs onto your guitar's headstock without any drilling or other destructive procedures and are completely reversible. Graph Tech's InvisoMatch mounting plates ship with the tuners. The machine heads mount directly to those plates and aren't screwed into your instrument. As their name would suggest, the InvisoMatch mounting plates are completely hidden by the Ratio tuners to supply a sleek, low-profile look on any instrument.

Graph Tech: improve your playing experience

Graph Tech has made it their personal mission to supply the products that will make your instrument play better, sound better, and perform better. From the company's popular String Saver saddles to their TUSQ string nuts that can be found on countless manufacturers' guitars, the company's products are a mainstay in the guitar and bass industry. Just about every player at Sweetwater owns something created by Graph Tech, because — like their mission statement demands — they never fail to improve our playing experience.

Graph Tech Ratio Locking Tuner Set (PRL-8311-C0) Features:

  • Makes tuneups faster and easier
  • Great for alternate and dropped tunings
  • Each tuner reacts the same to the same amount of force
  • 1 turn equals approximately 1 whole tone
  • Locking tuner design ensures rock-solid tuning
  • Contemporary design looks great on modern guitars
  • InvisoMatch mounting plates allow quick mounting with no extra screw holes

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Love These Tuners

I put locking tuners on all my guitars. These are every bit as good as the $ PRS Phase III Locking Tuners I put on my PRS guitar. And they can match every tuner screw configuration that I know of. It appears they have a different ratio for the different strings, and I really like that, because the feel when you tune is the same for the high E as it is for the low E.

GREAT tuners with SERIOUS quality control issues

First off, these are EASILY the best tuners I have ever used. The Tuning stability and precision are second to none, and I cannot recommend these machine heads more strongly. Just buy these.

Now for the bad part; the packing/quality control. I ordered three sets of 3x3 machine heads. Sweetwater, as always, got them to me quickly... then the problems started. Each of the sets were marked 3x3, yet each box contained 6 inline tuners. To make matters worse, all three sets were missing the nut/washer assembly to attach the machine heads. I contacted Sweetwater and they did not have any replacements in stock, so they worked with Graph Tech to get them replaced... this didn't actually work, as I spoke with Graph Tech and they said that they would replace the tuners, yet never sent them. I called Sweetwater again and they had more in and replaced them for me, even going so far as to open each set and verify that they were properly packed. THANK YOU, SWEETWATER!

One important note that might make a difference to you is that these tuners come with aluminum mounting plates that could be obtrusive on your guitar. I went to Graph Tech and bought black plates so that they would look nicer on the headstock. I would strongly recommend this if you want the best look on a black headstock.

The inline 6 tuners that I received instead of the 3x3 can NOT be installed on a Mexican Stratocaster without buying special mounting plates from Graph Tech. The locator pins on the machine heads do not match the locating holes on the headstock. You will need to buy these parts directly from Graph Tech if you want to use the 6 inline on a Mexican Strat.

Even with all the issues I had with these tuners, I absolutely WILL buy more, as they are that good once you get them installed.

The rating for the tuners themselves is a SOLID 5 stars.
The rating goes down to 3 stars simply because it was a difficult situation with their quality control and customer service.

5 stars for the tuners and 5 stars for Sweetwater.
