This snare is so amazing! Very versatile; nice dark, dry tone thanks to the wood hoops. It really pains me to say this because this snare's just so great, but there's only one small thing that's keeping me from giving it a 5-star rating: the claw hooks, pertaining to their longevity. Personally, I like my snare cranked to get that tight pop for gospel, but also to have that ping-y overtone ring for that timbale rimshot type of sound for Latin Jazz and reggae. However, after owning and constantly using this snare for about 2-3 weeks, I already had to order replacement hooks for the whole top side due to the hooks flattening out from the high tension and the glue adhering the felt liner to the metal wearing off on most of them. Thankfully, Sweetwater's service department did a phenomenal job in getting those replacement parts to me as quickly as possible. Other than that, this snare continues to amaze me with its sound, even while still running the stock PDP/DW Remo heads on it! Can't wait to hear what it sounds like with the Evans UV2
