Try D’Addario’s Toughest Strings

D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Guitar Strings represent one of the most exciting developments in string technology in recent years. Tough as nails, these strings feature an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire and a reformulated nickel plating on the wrap wire. Of course, NYXL strings are still made with the dedication to quality and craftsmanship that players have come to expect from D’Addario. But what does all of that do for you, the player? First, the strings are more flexible, making them a much better alternative for players who abuse the whammy bar. They’re also more stable — case in point, D'Addario reports these strings flaunt a 131% greater tuning stability. Suffice it to say: with these strings on your guitar, you’re free to play without worrying that a broken string will derail your session..

The NYXL Difference

So, what really makes NYXLs so much different than standard D’Addario strings? First, they’re built with an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire for greater durability and a higher tolerance for alternate tunings. The other difference found on NYXL strings is the reformulated nickel-plated wrap wire, which delivers a subtle boost in output between 1kHz and 3.5kHz. With NYXL strings, you get a modernized sound and ferocious durability without sacrificing the easy playability you know and love.

Which string gauge is right for me?

  • Extra Super Light: Super easy to play. Easy to bend. Great for beginners.
  • Super Light: Easy on the fingers. Slightly more volume and projection.
  • Regular Light: Most popular. Ideal balance of playability and versatile tone.
  • Medium: A popular fusion of heftier plain steels and wound strings.
  • Heavy: Hardest to bend. Maximum volume. Often used for drop/altered tunings.

The right tone for everyone

D’Addario believes that every acoustic guitar player should have a set of strings that match their sonic needs. That’s why they build strings with a range of construction methods and materials. Whether you go with the brightest 80/20 Bronze strings, the mellowest Silk & Steels, or anywhere in between, D’Addario has the perfect sound for everyone. Want to learn more? D’Addario: innovative strings since 1680

When you go with D’Addario, you receive far more than a great set of strings. You’re benefiting from three centuries of string-making experience. The D’Addario family tradition began in 1680 in the tiny town of Salle, Italy, where they made assorted instrument strings for over 200 years before relocating to New York in 1905. Since then, the D’Addario family has become a leader in string innovation. They designed the modern winding machine, introduced ultra-reliable hexagonal core wires, and pioneered the colored-coded ball end movement. More than 300 years since the family started making strings, D’Addario continues to set a global standard for quality and reliability. And every day, more than 500,000 strings emerge from their USA-based workshops.

D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings Features:

  • Advanced nickel-wound guitar strings with outstanding durability
  • Exclusive New York-made high-carbon steel core delivers unrivaled strength and elasticity
  • Wound strings flaunt an improved frequency response in the 1–3.5kHz range
  • Hexagonal steel core wire provides extra stability, greater reliability, and improved intonation

Unbelievable Tone and Long Life

This strings are amazing. They will make your guitar come to life and sing. I'm using both 10s and 11s and I just love them. I've been switching string brands for a while now searching for a great tone and long life. These strings bring both.

My all time favorite string

I have tried just about every string out there. And from my experience, nothing comes close to these. I'm always finding that a set of strings is too bright, or not bright enough. These are the perfect blend. Low chug, Crisp highs, punchy mids. They also seem to last a lot longer. I used to change my strings once a week now I get 3-4. You could get more. They are a little bit looser than your average set of strings but nothing crazy noticeable. It actually makes them play even better. NYXL all the way. From someone who has tried them all.

The only strings I used for several years, still a favorite

Sure, NYXL's might not seem worth it when one could just as easily buy 3 packs of the standard D'Addario strings for less. But during all my time testing them in the hot and humid climate of south central Indiana, not once have the NYXL's broken during a gig or practice. They will almost certainly outlast other uncoated strings. Like most guitar or bass strings NYXL's sound their best on day one. Putting these on before recording or playing a show will get the results you want, I cannot reccomend doing this enough if you want to get the best tone out of your guitar. Nowadays I use the 11-56 set for tuning to Drop B, and the D'addario XT 10-52 if I'm feeling lazy and don't want to change strings as often. When it comes to tuning stability and tone the NYXL's are ultimate.

the right guitar strings

I recently changed from lightweight to medium weight D'Addario strings for my Gibson electric guitar. What a difference! Amazing what .001 heavier can do for sound and durability. I am a gentle picker using a pick only 50% of the time but the light weight strings were not doing the job for me. The mediums stay in tune and last much longer without losing a bit of brightness. I highly recommend D'Addario NYX1149's.
