Optimize and Streamline Your Stage Setup

Bridge the gap between the band, FOH engineer, and audience with the PreSonus NSB16.8 AVB-networked stage box. Fitted with 16 locking combo mic/line inputs and eight locking XLR line outputs, the NSB16.8 features remote-controllable XMAX Class A preamps, gain compensation for shared inputs, and easy setup and control from a StudioLive Series III console and the free PreSonus UC Surface software. A 2-port AVB switch facilitates chaining multiple units and provides integration with PreSonus EarMix personal mixers.

Remote-controllable preamps make setup fast, easy, and painless

We've managed countless live shows here at Sweetwater; no one likes having to run up to the stage every time you have to make an adjustment to your stage box preamps. Thanks to the PreSonus NSB16.8's remote-controllable XMAX preamps, those back-and-forth cross-venue dashes are a thing of the past. The pres will show up in your StudioLive Series III console, giving you the control you need over your preamps, right from front-of-house. And by the way, these preamps are the exact same Class A XMAX preamps found in your StudioLive board, so you know you're getting quality sound with low noise and tons of headroom.

Total integration with the PreSonus EarMix personal monitoring system

When you add a PreSonus NSB16.8 to your PA setup, you're not just getting a great set of remote-controllable preamps and ditching tons of bulky cable, you're ready to add an advanced personal monitoring system directly inline with the rig you already have. That's because your NSB16.8 comes equipped with AVB connectivity, which provides your EarMix monitor controllers with a digital split straight from the stage box!

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

A must have!
If you have a Presonus Studiolive series III mixer, this stage box is a must have. A single CAT6 cable is a blessing versus a large cable snake. With flexible signal routing and controllable preamps, this thing is perfect. I bought the 32sc console and this unit adds 16 more channels. If you're looking at a console or a 24 or 32 channel rack mixer, you need this stage box.

Issues with audio drop-outs?
In response to some people having audio dropout problems. We use the NSB 32.16 for most shows. In the beginning, we experienced audio drops. The issue ended up being the choice of the Cat cable we were using (shielded twisted pair). The cable we used was shielded... this caused a grounding problem when someone would touch a mic, mic-stand, or even the console. We took our shielded cables and removed the ground cable from only ONE end. This solved our audio dropouts... no grounding issues. We kept the shield in place in the cable (and the ground on only one side). The other ground allows for the discharge of any electrical interference in the cable, but it does not cause audio issues. Check your cables!!

Magic box!
We finally got the network cabling installed and began using our NSB16.8 with our Presonus mixer. The main purpose is to connect the musicians on stage. Previously, we were using a Behringer stage mixer and bringing that in via the xlr snake. Our current speaker arrangement fills the room nicely but can produce feedback. But tests with the NSB16.8 are showing that the feedback threshold is significantly higher, to the point of being non-existent. It's amazing! There's some serious magic going on. And the audio quality is much clearer (go figure, good gain structure means good sound, who knew). There really isn't much about the NSB16.8 to convince me to purchase it. It doesn't DO anything when compared to something like a headless stage mixer. But when coupled with the Presonus main mixer, the results are outstanding. So glad Mike recommended it and that we went with it.
Life is so much simpler
I've been using the NSB 16.8 for the past year in a rehearsal/recording studio space together with a Presonus StudioLive Series III 32 channel mixer. They work seamlessly together. Cabling is dramatically reduced to a single AVB ethernet cable. Sounds great and always works.

Best feature is ability to digitally manage I/O configurations from the mixer and its UC control software app. We have several different band and recording configurations. Each one is set up and saved in its own project preset. At the touch of button, I can reconfigure the whole studio to the current project. Never have to move around cables any more. Eliminated the need for my analog patch bay.

We also use Presonus StudioOne as our DAW and Presonus Capture as the direct-to-disk recording app. The mixer/NSB hardware integrate nicely into this environment making recording and production workflow much simpler.
Clean Signal
Really cleaned up the sound of buzzing and weak signals!

Sweetwater and PreSonus go way back, and that makes a lot of sense. Like Sweetwater, PreSonus is largely staffed by active musicians, songwriters, live sound techs, and engineers, and like Sweetwater, their culture shows up in everything they do. Early on, PreSonus broke ground by offering super-affordable audio interfaces that brought quality recording to home studio engineers everywhere. In the following years, we've been with them as they introduced a powerful, artist-friendly DAW, groundbreaking digital mixers, and more - all products we at Sweetwater use ourselves. One thing that's never changed, even as PreSonus has branched out into new territory, is that they've always done everything possible to provide you with the best value, and we're proud to stand by their products.
