The Piano and Sample Synth sections of the Nord Piano 5 each comprise two independent layers, and you can can simultaneously deploy custom split or layer combo configurations as needed. Combined with the Piano 5’s flexible and adaptable effects routing, a broad variety of combinations can be crafted, from vintage ensembles to rich contemporary soundscapes — and everything in between.

Nord’s Virtual Hammer Action technology works in concert with precision physical hammer movements to provide a keyboard action that delivers stunningly realistic playability and dynamic response. The company’s Advanced String Resonance accurately reproduces the complex interplay of the piano strings and also adds the body resonance of a real acoustic piano when the damper pedal is depressed. Packing two new independent Sample Synth engines with greatly expanded memory for the sounds in the Nord Sample Library, the Nord Piano 5 is born to play the big stages. Its Sample Synth section is loaded with a thoroughly re-engineered library of top-quality sounds from the Nord Sample Library that includes exclusively licensed sounds from the coveted vintage Mellotron and Chamberlin, plus a selection of tasty samples from the ProjectSAM Symphobia and Swing! libraries. All sounds can be easily replaced via Nord Sound Manager. The Sample Synth section gives you two full-featured, independent Layers and is outfitted with intuitive controls for attack, decay/release, and dynamic velocity response. You can even create your own sample instruments using the free Nord Sample Editor software for macOS and Windows. The Sample Synth section’s new Unison feature creatively blends multiple sample voices for a range of opulent ensemble sounds. It also features Tru-Vibrato, which accurately models the unique vibrato characteristics of a wide variety of string, brass, and woodwind instruments.

Studio-grade Effect section
Piano 5’s Effect section gives you a broad selection of instantly tweakable studio-grade stereo effects modeled on classic stomp boxes. Any effect can be assigned to any layer in the Piano and Sample Synth sections. On tap in the Effect section are Tremolo, Phaser, Chorus, Pan, Wah, RM, Flanger, Vibe, EQ, Delay, and Reverb. There are five different flavors of Reverb: Booth, Room, Stage, Hall, and Cathedral; each is infinitely adjustable for adding customized ambience to your sounds. Additionally, instantly accessible Bright and Dark modes allow for enhanced or mellowed high end; while a new Chorale option adds a lush modulation effect to your patches.
