Get Acquainted to the World of Brass

The Nuvo jHorn is the ideal first step for children and beginners looking to learn almost any brass instrument. While it offers a child-friendly design and weight, the jHorn effectively produces an accurate, rich brass tone similar to tenor trombone and euphonium, making it an excellent option for instruction and performances. Similarly, three entire octaves of notes open the door for a variety of beginner music compositions and skill development. Sweetwater Academy of Music & Technology instructors especially love the jHorn’s standard brass fingering, which promotes comfortable play and paves the way for correct positioning techniques. Best of all, an included set of C-tubes and a multi-cup mouthpiece provide all the tools you need to start your musical journey.

Perfect for beginners and young musicians

The jHorn’s built-in brass fingering and introductive build make it the perfect option for musical beginners, petite players, and school ensembles. Its authentic tone provides three octaves of sound, making it suitable for several practice and performance applications. Shorter finger stretches also remove many of the challenges that standard-size instruments pose to younger musicians, thus helping to aid practice, boost motivation, and promote skill development. Got a large group? No problem: the jHorn is easily washable with soap and water, making it ideal for shared instrument situations.

Nuvo: embracing the learning experience since 2008

Founded on a universal passion for instrumental education, Nuvo has brought motivation and successful skill development to a wealth of musical newcomers. To attest to this dedication, each of the company’s small-scale instruments provides the same versatility as conventional-sized counterparts but with a comfortable and easy-to-play size, offering full functionality without the physical hindrances that often discourage new or younger players. Learning a new instrument can be a significant, life-changing experience — Sweetwater musicians are thankful that Nuvo makes the process easy, accessible, and, most importantly, enjoyable.

Nuvo jHorn Features:

  • Lightweight, fully chromatic instrument in the key of Bb
  • Shorter finger stretches and standard fingering system — ideal for beginners and young players
  • Perfect for classroom ensembles and other educational environments
  • Plays 3 entire octaves of notes
  • Accurately replicates traditional brass instrument tone
  • Shorter, standard fingering that provides comfort and encourages correct positioning
  • Easily cleaned with warm, soapy water — perfect for shared instrument practice
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items

Reviews

Lots of fun! Though it could use some larger mouthpiece sizes.
As a decades-out-of-practice tuba player, I picked this horn up to play around, and perhaps even play in a community band.

It's an intriguing instrument. Switching up tubes is a breeze. I love the rotary valves, although the action on each is a bit different, and they are very clacky. Otherwise it's very well-built and well thought out. The initial tube appears to be replaceable, which might mean we get a marching version some day?? Or maybe one could be DIY.

I found the included mouthpieces to be comfortable, but as I am used to tuba, I had a difficult time. I decided to 3D print a mouthpiece (regular tuba large cup, but small bore for the horn). After that, I had so much fun. Of course, a 3D printed mouthpiece is not food-safe... it will grow mold in its crevices, so I hope the jHorn people will make an official tuba-sized mouthpiece for this horn. In fact, I think it would make for good practice as it's harder to nail in-tune notes on a shorter horn than it is a full tuba... so your buzz needs to be right.

I think this horn would be a lot of fun for kids learning band instruments. It's clearly thought out with them in mind. It comes with a lightweight backpack hard-ish shell case, instruction booklet, and even backing tracks to play with that you can play via a phone.

Very cool instrument.
