An All-encompassing Overdrive Workstation

Designed in collaboration with Andy Timmons, the Mk3 Driver Andy Timmons full-range overdrive pedal combines Robert Keeley's popular modded BD-style overdrive circuit with germanium diodes and expanded voicings. The result is one of the most sonically versatile dirt boxes you'll ever plug into. Indeed, the guitarists here at Sweetwater have found this stompbox to be equally viable as a clean boost, a treble supercharger, a chimey tube-style overdrive, and a germanium fuzz. The Mk3 Driver Andy Timmons features intuitive Tone, Drive, and Level knobs, along with a Tone voicing switch that cuts or boosts your low end and a Drive voicing switch that alternates between asymmetrical silicon and dual-germanium clipping modes. Beyond that, you can toggle between buffered and true-bypass switching instantly with a tap of your foot. Finally, this guitar effects pedal boasts 9–18-volt operation, netting you dynamic range and headroom by the truckload. The Mk3 Driver Andy Timmons full-range overdrive pedal flaunts a magical combination of red-hot JFET transistors, germanium diodes, and op-amps; once you taste its harmonic-laden overdrive, you'll never take it off your pedalboard.

One pedal, many voices

At its core, the Mk3 Driver Andy Timmons full-range overdrive pedal is a BD-style overdrive with intuitive Tone, Level, and Drive knobs. But, thanks to its AT/RK ("Andy Timmons/Robert Keeley") Tone and Drive voicing mode switches, the Mk3 Driver is capable of much more than your typical blue stompbox. The Tone switch leverages Robert Keeley's extensive modding experience, enabling you to cut low frequencies for added clarity or boost low-end for extra power. The Drive switch alternates between an articulate asymmetrical silicon clipping style and a dual-germanium-diode-fueled mode with a smoother, more compressed character.

Buffer or true bypass — the choice is yours

The Keeley Mk3 Driver Andy Timmons full-range overdrive employs an industry-leading buffer, ensuring both noise-free switching and long cable runs with zero tone loss. A good buffer will make almost any rig sound better. That said, there are many circumstances where true-bypass switching is preferable, especially if your guitar rig contains vintage fuzzes and other similar pedals. If that's the case, simply hold down the Mk3 Driver's footswitch for two seconds, and you can instantly toggle between true-bypass and buffered-bypass switching.

Keeley Mk3 Driver Features:

  • Designed in collaboration with celebrated guitarist Andy Timmons
  • Based on the popular Keeley-modded BD-style overdrive with intuitive Tone, Drive, and Level knobs
  • Tone voicing switch cuts or boosts your low end
  • Drive voicing switch alternates between asymmetrical silicon and dual-germanium clipping modes
  • Holding down the footswitch for 2 seconds instantly toggles between true-bypass and buffered-bypass switching
  • 9V–18V operation yields outstanding dynamic range and headroom
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!

Reviews

Keeley MK3 Driver
After playing for several weeks on several guitar/amp combinations, I can say that I really like the nuances of this pedal. I find it very dynamic and touch sensitive to my playing. It sounds fantastic with my American Deluxe Telecaster through a Deluxe Reverb. There are plenty of tonal variations available on the Tone and Drive Circuit via the AT and RK toggle switches and along with the Tone and Drive level, you can find your sweet spot for the rig setup you are playing. This is supposed to be based somewhat on Keeley's Blues Driver mod. I compared it to my BD-2w and found similarities but the MK3 Driver seemed to offer more of what I like. I can recommend this pedal as it offers a good variety of tonal qualities that I found that I really like. Sweetwater shipped this out in quick fashion and check them out for you guitar needs. They'll treat you right ...
Excellent Overdrive
This pedal does it all -- low-gain overdrive to full-bore. The nobs & toggles have an excellent sweep of parameters to them. Plus, it plays VERY nicely on its own AND in front of an amp. As many of you know, that's hard for a pedal to do well. I use it alongside a Friedman Buxom Boost into a Friedman 20w head. Well done, Keeley -- this one's a keeper.
Pedal
Just got this in the mail earlier. Excellent pedal!
Music background: 12+ years
Wow!
I am used to my vintage ODR-1 and King of Tone. The ODR-1 I put first and keep the gain low, then put a higher gain pedal after, like a King (or Duke) of tone. The latter is based on a Bluesbreaker circuit, is my understanding, and there's a little more of an upper mid-range honk (in a good, stand out in the mix way), but this isn't always the dirty tone I want for rhythms.

I went to Sweetwater and compared the MK3 Driveer against a bunch of other pedals, including the various other Keeley offerings. I came home with the MK3 Driver. Just amazing. Very natural, tight where it needs to be, without being boxy, and it can do the high gain thing no problem. Really pleased with this.

Try a clean boost, one that can provide light gain (e.g. RC booster or ODR-1 with gain low), in front of this. Then, adjust the drive on the MK3 Driver to where you need it to be. Pretty cool!
