Peavey's Potent Little Bass Brute

Peavey's MiniMax V2 bass amplifier head packs a punch — in a compact, lightweight, and roadworthy package. How does Peavey pack 600 watts of bone-rattling power into a chassis that weighs less than six pounds and fits in your backpack? Cutting-edge technology — that's how. But the MiniMax story doesn't begin and end with raw power. This little beast has finesse. Like DDT speaker protection, 3-band EQ, Peavey's TransTube gain boost, and psychoacoustic low-end enhancement that adds bottom without killing your speakers. Yes, MiniMAX boasts an impressive feature set, but it also has a gentle price tag that any working bass player can afford. The first-generation MiniMax was very popular at Sweetwater, and now the MiniMax V2 ups the ante with sleek new styling, upgraded potentiometers, and improved overall reliability to stand up to the most rigorous performance schedules.

Massive tone arsenal

The Peavey MiniMAX V2 packs a massive tone arsenal that you'll find ideal for any live or studio gig. To shape your signature sounds, you get 3-band EQ with Punch, Mid-shift, and Bright controls, as well as Peavey's Kosmos psychoacoustic low-end enhancement, which generates a harmonic and blends it with the original note to make your lows seem lunder and cleaner without eating into the headroom. What's more, MiniMAX sports a pre-gain control with Peavey's TransTube gain boost, which lets you add a girthy growl to your sound. There's even a convenient built-in chromatic tuner that allows for easy tuning on the fly.

Built like a tank

The MiniMAX V2 boasts the rock-solid construction that, at Sweetwater, we've come to expect from Peavey gear: this little brute is built to withstand years of pro touring abuse. The back panel gives you an FX loop to patch in your effects and an XLR DI output for connection to your sound reinforcement system. The MiniMAX mates beautifully with Peavey's Headliner or PVH series bass enclosures, for a reliable, super-lightweight professional bass rig.

Great update on a great Head!

i had the previous version with white chicken head knobs....loved it!!!!! but a lightning strike killed it. with my insurance i got the V2 version and have been very happy with it. a couple dozen gigs and its still awesome. i play it with my Jazz band

paired with an Orange OBC112 is is small light and a suitable for up to decent size venues, add another cab and ... MSG wont be an issue. .

Great amp!

I'm running it through a Genzler Nu Classic 2x10 at rehearsals. 3 rehearsals in, and it rocks. A little more thump than my Thunderfunk 550. Everything is set flat, just use the active eq on my 5 string Ray or Pedulla. Other bassist agrees. Yes, it has a fan that is always on, no switch. It's not not annoying at rehearsal. In a bedroom/studio/living room it might be. It's only a tad louder than the fan on my Thunderfunk amp, and if it had a wire grill vs. the array of holes in the chassis I think it would be quieter. Anyway, for gigs and rehearsal, absolutely no problem (2 guitars, keys, heavy drummer, rocking). Can't hear any real change with the CSMO button. All the buttons have subtle effect. The tuner, unless the amp is at eye level is useless because it is recessed so far. Seems solid. No regrets, and great service from Sweetwater.

Great Simple Bass Amp!

I love the MiniMax! Very simple & packs just the right cool features, without there being to many options. I play the MiniMax through a Ampeg 610 HLF. At 4 ohms the MiniMax is LOUD! I play with the Gain at 5 & the master volume at one & a half & it rattles the practice space apart no problem. For one of my bands acoustic songs I play an electric upright bass through the amp with the kosmos button activated & the bass all the way up & it's the beefiest sound I've ever heard from a amp before. I liked it so much I bought a second MiniMax as a backup & mounted it in my rack.

Excellent Amp

Been using it for months now. Works great. Running it through two 410TXF cabs. Plenty loud. Keeps up with my guitarist's JCM800 w/4x12 cab. Good tone. Never had it past 4 on gain or volume. As far as fan noise, you'd have to be in an iso room with it to notice. Good amp for the money. A workhorse.

Great amp. Awful fan noise.

I love the sound of this amp. Great growl on par with my Ampeg Svt-7 pro, and better in some situations.
The problem is that fan noise. Very poor engineering by Peavey there.i ended up having to cut openings in the sides where the little airflow holes were, and installed a screen to cover the openings. It's a lot more quiet now with the better airflow.
Why should I have to go to all that trouble to stop the amp from howling?
