Brute-force Synthesis Is Back

Exchanging a keybed for a compact row of velocity/pressure-sensitive pads, the Arturia MiniBrute 2S semi-modular analog synthesizer delivers massive sound that's easy to add to your synth setup. Because it's semi-modular, you don't need to patch a thing to generate a huge range of sounds with MiniBrute 2S — but you'll have endless creative possibilities when you begin to tap into its 48-point CV mod matrix. Also impressive is its 3-layer BeatStep-style sequencer, allowing you to sequence notes on one layer while sequencing parameter changes on the others.

Ample sound design potential and hands-on control

With two Brute oscillators and the popular Steiner-Parker filter, the MiniBrute 2S synthesizer builds on everything synthesists loved about the original. Even without using the patchbay you'll be able to create deep basses, intense leads, evocative drones and pads, and much more. And with its effortless integration with Eurorack, the MiniBrute 2S becomes a sound design powerhouse.

Designed for RackBrute

With 48 CV patch points, the MiniBrute 2S is the perfect complement for a Eurorack modular synth rig. And the perfect way to join those two worlds is with Arturia's RackBrute Eurorack case. MiniBrute 2S and RackBrute join together and offer different positioning options, putting your Eurorack modules right where you need them.

Connectivity for all

One thing we especially like about the MiniBrute 2S here at Sweetwater is its ability to integrate with other music gear in so many ways. The impressive 48 CV patch points for use with modular synthesizers are just the start. Traditional 5-pin MIDI is present too, as well as USB for MIDI to and from your computer. You'll be able to sync to your DrumBrute, Akai MPC Live, or Korg Volca modules. And the external audio input allows you to process sounds through the MiniBrute 2S's powerful sound-shaping facilities.

Arturia MiniBrute 2S Synthesizer Features:

  • Semi-modular monophonic analog synthesizer
  • Velocity- and pressure-sensitive performance pads
  • 2 oscillators with waveform mixing, wave shaping, and frequency modulation
  • 4-mode Steiner-Parker analog filter
  • 2 envelopes, 1 ADSR and 1 looping AD, and 2 LFOs
  • Built-in sequencer and arpeggiator
  • USB and MIDI connectivity, plus sync support for DrumBrute, Akai MPC Live, and Korg Volcas
  • 48-point CV for extensive modulation capabilities and Eurorack integration

Reviews

Great monosynth with unique features
The Minibrute 2S is a unique monosynth that combines great sound shaping possibilities with an innovative and deep sequencer. It can do everything from percussion and bass to synth leads and even pads. The patch bay is amazing, allowing unusual routings of modulations, as well as integration with other gear or processing of external audio signals. I've had this synth for several years now, and it has been great.
Music background: Guitar player who loves synths
Real Analog Instrument
This synthesizer sounds fantastic but in depth synthesizer knowledge cant be over stressed.
If you want to push presets and get really cool
sounds you will be disappointed. There is a
learning curve that European consumers probably
already have achieved because its marketed towards
Eurorack enthusiast. But after some basic
understanding this synthesizer comes to life.
The filter and the hands on manipulation renders
this a truely analog instrument limited only by your
imagination. The sequencer and modular section
results in a very powerful analog synthesizer.
If you get one dont let one night or one month
of twiddling knobs make you give up. Unfortunately
the user manual is not helpful at all for a novice.
It needs to be more simple as in this knob controls
this instead of this is how you do a filter sweep.
Arturia would probably do well to help novice
consumers with easy to understand instructions
and clear diagrams not everyone is a eurorack
musician.
It's a decent analog rig for the price
For the money, the feature set is great: We are talking about a $ multi-osc sequenced analog synth here. There are small annoyances, like Arturia's odd outputting of a reset signal in the same CV out as the clock, which makes true sync with other mod gear a bit of a pain, requiring specialty cables.

The build quality is not very solid-feeling, but for $ you get what you expect in build quality with a pretty nice set of features.

The sequencer has some roundabout workflow issues as well, like the inablility to change the values of all steps at once. It also does not recall the last preset on next power-up which is pretty annoying and a shoddy oversight.
Useless Junk
I have the Minibrute 2s and the Drumbrute. Both have the same hardware failure where the selector knobs skip values and fall backward or forward unpredictably when used. On the Minibrute for example, I can no longer select note values for the sequencer steps. On the Drumbrute I can no longer select tempo. Both are critical failures making the units unusable. After haunting forums for an answer it becomes clear that many of their products have similar failures. The common element appears to be a particular type of selector knob. I guess nobody told the software engineers that you can't fix hardware with an update.
