A Real Top-of-the-hill Interface and Converter

The Lynx Mesa sees the company traversing into the desktop audio interface realm, and judging by the reactions of Sweetwater studio engineers, Lynx has succeeded with aplomb. The Mesa is a 14-in/14-out Thunderbolt 3 interface and AD/DA converter that sports the same audio quality and transparency as Lynx's revered Aurora(n) and the same high-contrast capacitive touchscreen interface as Lynx's esteemed Hilo 2. It features four low-noise switchable microphone inputs, two headphone outputs with dedicated D/A conversion and independent level controls, and two monitor outs on balanced 1/4-inch TRS connectors. You'll also find a SynchroLock 2 low-jitter sample clock and I/O for S/PDIF or ADAT, Coax S/PDIF, and Word Clock. Finally, a microSD card slot makes live or remote recordings and playbacks total walks in the park.

Usable anywhere for anything

The Mesa's desktop form factor makes it applicable for all levels of production, from project studios to commercial recording facilities and live recording, plus preset audio recording setups get you up and going immediately. Its four combo jacks are selectable for mic/line/hi-Z signals and are switchable per channel. In addition to making remote recording/playback a total cinch, its microSD card slot enables the Lynx to function as a backup recording device. Multi-personnel monitoring can be accomplished via two headphone outputs with dedicated D/A converters and independent level controls.

Armed with SynchroLock 2 jitter reduction for clear digital audio

The Mesa also includes Lynx's proprietary SynchroLock 2 jitter reduction technology. This Lynx-exclusive feature provides extreme jitter reduction of up to 3,000:1, allowing Mesa to output an extremely clean clock output for driving the digital audio system.

Lynx Mesa Features:

  • Next-gen desktop Thunderbolt 3 interface and AD/DA converter
  • Same audio quality and transparency as Lynx's revered Aurora(n)

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items

Mobile and desktop gem
Outstanding preamps and converters. A very large cut above, sonically, than anything I have heard in the audio interface category. Using for mostly acoustic instruments. I hear subtleties in the resonance and tone that I never knew when recording and playback on previous interfaces. Taken to gigs and recorded onto microSD into 4channel/tracks, no computer, then to studio for downloading and editing. Easy live workflow. For studio, recorded direct in to DAW, amazing results.

Hard to imagine a better sounding (semi) portable interface
My main setup is a Lynx Aurora (n) 24 channel using outboard preamps - I sort of became spoiled by the sound of that and wished there was something portable with the same clarity and "life" with little to no compromise: for me, the Mesa has essentially accomplished that.

The Mesa's built in pres stand with the actual conversion in terms of clarity/quality, perfectly professional option...but if I care I'll just bring my API lunchbox for some external pres having more color, but definitely not a requirement to bring a smile to my face.

The unit requires wall-power (or a specialized battery setup) to operate - it's not bus powered. I am an EE for my day job and think this is what Lynx had to do to retain quality. The unit gets hot (similar to an Aurora (n)). Advice: if you are using it with a laptop with the Mesa always plugin the laptop to the wall as well, that way the laptop battery it isn't charging through the Mesa's thunderbolt connection - this is just asking for more heat in the unit (potentially degrading lifetime of the electronics). I don't think this is official Lynx advice, but it is mine!

Also, if you are using Apple silicon Mac computer, you need to look around for specific installation instructions or else you WILL have issues.

Love this thing.

Currently the best desktop interface on the market
If you are looking for absolutely the best conversion and pro level interface on desktop format this is the one. Tested it against neumann and other similar devices and its absolutely the best. Built in pre amps are very clean and neutral and have much better low end and mid range than other brand interfaces. The price is high but there is nothing that is better at this time. Headphone amps are 10/10. Before purchasing this one I took few months to work on other devices but there was nothing better than this. Lynx did a A+ job on this one, you get absolutely the best converters in the game, top notch headphone amps and great built in preamp. Highly recommend!
