Tap into a Classic Analog Delay

The all-analog Deluxe Memory Man 550-TT is everything you love about the classic EHX Memory Man — right down to the old-spec bucket brigade ICs — but adds tempo tapping for precise dotted-eighth-note and triplet chased delays. Enjoy onboard modulation for subtle tape effects to woozy chords & leads, or sidechain your own octave and dirt pedals to add new dimensions to the 550-TT's repeats without coloring your dry signal. An expression pedal input with 5-way switch gives you hands-free control over modulation, feedback, and delay time. For true analog delay with tap tempo at a working musician's price, Sweetwater guitarists agree: it's tough to beat the Electro-Harmonix 550-TT Deluxe Memory Man.

Same great performance as the original

Electro-Harmonix has found a chip that accurately replicates the performance of the Panasonic Bucket Brigade chips found in the original Memory Man pedals. Not only does this chip, the Xvive MN3005, sound like the older chips, but its supply ensures the survival of one of the most coveted delay pedals in history. Every MN3005 chip is thoroughly tested by EHX to ensure it's 100% equal in performance to the Panasonics. With the Deluxe Memory Man 550-TT, you get everything that's great about the older pedals in a more reliable package.

EHX 550-TT vs 1100-TT: which should I buy?

It all comes down to delay time. Like the original Memory Man, the 550-TT is capable of over a half-second (550ms) of pure analog delay; but the 1100-TT boasts an astounding 1.1 seconds. Both boxes include old-spec bucket brigade ICs, carefully chosen to capture the sound of the original, and sport the same friendly layout with expression pedal input and effects loop. If you can afford the upgrade, the 1100's added delay time is worth the money. But for most of us in search of Edge-type delays and Gilmour-esque leads, the Electro-Harmonix 550-TT will serve just fine.

Electro-Harmonix 550-TT Deluxe Memory Man Delay Features:

  • Faithful to the original Memory Man — right down to the old-spec bucket brigade ICs
  • 550ms of pure analog delay
  • Tap tempo enables precise dotted eighth-note delays and more
  • Onboard modulation ranges from subtle tape effects to seasick repeats
  • True bypass switching keeps your signal path clean
  • Effects loop adds character to repeats — pair with octave, EQ, and dirt pedals
  • Expression pedal input offers hands-free control over modulation, feedback, and delay time

More than a delay pedal

This pedal is not a typical delay pedal. The DMM
preamp and analogue Panasonic chips create
a totally unique delay pedal more like old rack units that cost
10 times more. The modulation acts like a synthesizer's LFO
and at first it might seem like too much as the pitch modulates
but it's a matter of adjusting the blend and preamp levels to find the perfect tone. This pedal requires precise levels of each knob to create desired sounds but after you figure out how to use it the pedal might replace your chorus or detune or
other delay pedals. Additionally with an expression pedal one can manipulate most parameters creating truly unique sounds. This pedal has a lot to offer a creative mind.

I love the Deluxe Memory Man.

This is a wonderful pedal. It can do anything from short staccato repeats, to vast and cavernous feedback. It hasn't left my board since I got it. It pairs really well with other pedals, and even other delays.

Awesome DMM sound

This is the fourth Deluxe Memory Man pedal i have owned over the last 35 years. Wish is still had the first one...a 1985 DMM with the AC cord attached....pure classic DMM tone. Alas i loaned it and it never returned...never again. I have also owned the more recent DMM XO and the Hazarai units. I must say i am most pleased with this 550TT. I was not interested in the 1100TT with longer delays. I have Eventide Timefactor, Strymon Timeline, and an MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe units for that. I was interested in getting the Panasonic NOS bucket brigade chips which this unit has. I was also interested in the classic DMM repeats and modulation tones....this unit has that in spades!! and 550mS (it is also capable of 1.5sec of delay in low fi with the tap tempo switch) is plenty of delay for 75% of what i need. It also has that gorgeous sounding EHX DMM preamp tone that makes a great front end for stacking with my stereo Eventide and Strymon delay units....gives them that analog shimmer tone and also the clarity of the stacked digital repeats....very sweet. I highly recommend this pedal for both clean and high gain delay projects.
