Great Tone and Comfortable Playability

The Seagull Maritime SWS A/E takes smaller-body guitar design to new heights. The combination of solid spruce and mahogany delivers a well-rounded, warm tone that's great for any situation. It makes a great recording instrument, thanks to its even midrange and balanced high and low end. Its pressure-tested, compound curved top gives you increased stability, resonance, and projection. The Maritime SWS A/E comes with Fishman electronics for stellar amplified tone. The innovative design and construction of the Seagull Maritime SWS A/E offer a smooth-playing, handcrafted instrument at a price working musicians can afford.

Innovative neck construction and mounting deliver killer playability and tone

The attention to detail given to each Seagull shows in its looks, playability, and tone. Seagull has also taken extra care to ensure that the Maritime SWS A/E’s neck helps to create an amazing guitar experience. An acoustic guitar's neck is more than just a fretboard used for playing; it also creates the guitar's tone. Seagull's integrated set neck gives your guitar the sound you want along with the stability you need in a performing guitar. This system provides stable and consistent action that also reduces warping and twisting. Thanks to this integrated system, the SWS's neck pitch is perfectly set. If it's too far forward, the instrument will sound muddy, and if it's too far back, the guitar will sound tinny. Seagull's design assures optimized sound and playability with these and other innovations found in the entire Seagull line.

Super-comfortable dreadnought body style

Arguably Seagull's most comfortable body style, the Seagull Maritime SWS A/E’s dreadnought shape is the perfect fit for anyone looking for a more manageable instrument. It would perform equally as well for both adults and children and offers easy portability. Guitarists at Sweetwater love the Seagull Maritime SWS A/E for its playability and tone.

Seagull's quest for tone

Robert Godin, the owner of Seagull Guitars, has never been satisfied with "good enough." His tireless search for a better guitar has created quite a few innovations that go into every guitar model that Seagull makes. Every Maritime SWS A/E’s semi-gloss top is pressure tested for rigidity and stiffness to ensure maximum harmonic vibration. The unique compound curved top adds structural integrity to the guitar and allows for thinner bracing. The Maritime SWS A/E will give you years of great performance.

Seagull Maritime SWS A/E Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • Pressure-tested solid spruce top offers superior tone, projection, and response
  • Solid mahogany back and sides deliver warm, full acoustic guitar sounds
  • Fishman electronics deliver stellar amplified tone
  • Integrated set neck offers tuning and playing stability and eliminates twisting and warping
  • Tapered headstock gives you a straighter string pull, better tuning, and less stress, especially when using altered tunings
  • TUSQ nut and compensated saddle offer a sound similar to bone but with more harmonics
  • Dual-function truss rods assure the perfect neck alignment and relief

Nice right out of the box

Got my SWS Monday! Love this guitar. I really like how wide the strings are spaced. Easy to grab cords and make cord changes. Has a wonderful tone. Very nice pickup and the guitar is very well built. Beautiful woods nice that you pick your guitar from what they have in stock.

Seagull plus Sweetwater = satisfaction

I've never been a fan of ordering a guitar. I want to get my hands on one before I buy it for obvious reasons; no two guitars sound or play alike. I have run into some "dingers" even in high-end expensive name-brand guitars but I really wanted the Maritime. I have had a Seagull S6 Original for a couple of years and it has become my favorite of all the guitars that I have ever owned. I searched high and low all over the place with no luck for a dealer that had a Maritime in stock. Based on my past experience with Sweetwater and their customer service and the reputation that Seagull has earned and my experience with the S6 I took the plunge and ordered the Maritime. I wasn't disappointed! Far from it. It is everything that I was expecting and more. A little tweaking on the action and it plays with all the ease that my S6 does and sounds fantastic both plugged and unplugged. Seagull guitars deliver a LOT of guitar for the money invested but laying that aside, they are just a great guitar! On the other side of the equation, in my experience with Sweetwater they have always delivered satisfaction and went the extra mile to take care of me, their customer. Thanks, guys!

Good guitar good service from sweetwater

Got the guitar in time. Condition is very good. I love this seagull maritime very much. Just took a play on it, the action is good as what my sales technician told me. I would like to appreciate my sales technician Jacob Leonhardt and Kingsley. They both helped me a lot. Nice experience shopping in Sweetwater.

Excellent guitar. Sound, fit, finish, superb.

Took a big risk on this one buying via photos, and being a 25 year guitar player and knowing what I want at this point.
Biggest compliment is that four times - FOUR TIMES - in just 4 months of ownership, sound techs and other musicians have made it a point to come to me and tell me how good this guitar sounds, without them knowing it's a new marriage, plugged in direct to PA in a medium-large church. "Actually, you've got the best sounding guitar, just more full, I don't have to do any EQ on you."

Wood is extremely good. My example spruce top has plenty of silking that pops even though the flat finish. If your heart is set on this guitar, hang out and wait for one with a top that you love because Seagull has access to that Canadian timber and some great pieces are coming through. Fit and finish OVERALL is excellent, though one or two minor blips on the fingerboard had to be worked out with fine grit sandpaper.

The sounds is balanced, and useful, and sweet to the ear. It is not particularly acoustically loud. (But don't mistake loud with good). Harmonic content is also well balanced. Open string bass notes while finger picking are well balanced. Doesn't boom on bass or just throw lots of trebley harmonics. Very very practical guitar. You could cover almost anything on this and sound really good.

The shape, hidden EQ, flat finish, smooth low friction back of the neck, makes for a very functional and very beautiful guitar in an understated way. One thing potential buyer - do not underestimate how wide the neck is. In truth, it's too dang wide and I have nice long thin fingers. Feels spaced like a classic nylon. I like my nylon, so its ok with me, but if you are used to only modern nut widths, try before you buy.

Too pretty as is to put a finger guard on it. Gator GC Dread Deluxe fits this guitar very well. Overall really looking forward to playing this one all the time and listening to it open up and reveal itself completely as the top breaks in!

Nice Mid-range Guitar

I purchased my Seagull nearly a year ago and meant to do this review after about only a month or two...a bit late, but here goes. This is my fourth acoustic, as I also own a Martin D-14 Special Ovangkol, a Martin DM and an Ovation Viper. Overall, the Seagull is a nice mid-range guitar. It is slightly shallower, more like a OOO body, than a true dreadnought. It produces a nice sound, but it is definitely more mid-range, leaning towards treble, in its tone than a Martin. Even the Special D Martin that I own, which is identical in size to the Seagull, has a deeper, more balanced tone. All of that said, the fact that this Seagull is an acoustic/electric means you can adjust the sound when plugged in, so any lack of bass can be massaged. The only negative I really have is build quality. The workmanship could be improved. There is slight gap, bass side, between the binding and neck, where the neck attaches to the body. The top bracing, visible just inside the sound-hole, is quite jagged...and I'm not saying it needs a sanding, it literally is misshaped AND needs a sanding. In fairness, this isn't a $1500+ guitar, so those faults can be forgiven. All in all, I'm happy with it. If you are looking for an all-solid wood, smaller dreadnought w/pickup, at a very decent price, this is the guitar for you. I have to add that the service by Sweetwater, with the help of my sales engineer, Chris Barry, was excellent...as it always is! Thanks Chris, and thank you Sweetwater!!
