Fantastic Value, even at 3x the cost

This thing is what I would expect from something 3x the cost! The best part is it's actually FUN to play. I thoroughly Enjoy hitting this thing.
1. It sounds FANTASTIC in every tuning
- in low tunings it super fat, splatty, and full
- in medium tunings it has SO much tone, and just sounds good.
- in high tunings it REALLY shines, I recorded a session with it and I could feel the snare hits more than the kick drum across the room at my desk.
2. It looks awesome! The flat black is sick!
3. It takes upgrades very well, I immediately put a 32 strand snare wire on it and it made it sing, the extra sizzle does this thing wonders!

If you're on the fence, just do it. Its perfect for a main snare, and perfect for a backup as well. At this price it's really a no brained, even if you don't need it!

In a studio setting having snares this versatile is a necessity! I cant Recommend it enough. Just do it!

Really good!

Great snare drum. Lightweight, resonant, well made, great sound and more importantly to me, great feel. Best feeling snare drum I've bought. I've got 2 DW snares that feel awful to play. Never liked them in the 22 years I've had them no matter how I tune them. I've also got a black magic 6.5x14 that's pretty good. But this is better. I've learned over the years that overbuilt isn't always better, and that bottom of the line instruments from top of the line manufacturers are where the best value is. But this was even better than expected. Absolutely love it. Favorite snare. This review is for the 8x14 model

Can't go wrong, one of the best bang snares for the money. One will not be disappointed. Highly recommended. Again one can not beat the price and fantastic sound. A must have in tour arsenal. Pearl Modern Utility Rocks!!!

It makes a great Snom!

Wow , I finally received my Pearl Modern Utility 14" X 8" yesterday. It took over two weeks from the time I ordered it with the Christmas rush going on, BUT am I Happy!!! I had seen a YouTube video of a large snare being used as a floor tom and deep snare and being placed in front of the 16" floor tom on the right and so I thought I'd give it a try. I added a 14" Evans oil filled batter head as per the video and does this bad boy sound great !! Now, I just have to just used to it being there~!~ I'm using it with a "vintage" 1962 Ludwig white marine "Hollywood" double 12" X 8" tom kit that I have had new since '62 and it is in great shape for it's age. OH, the stories this kit could tell from the many gigs it has been on over the decades. I also plan on using this snare/tom with my'86 Pearl full maple kit. I thought about spending more money for a Higher line Pearl, Ludwig, DW, Tama, Gretsch , ETC. , but this Pearl Modern Utility is more than adequate for this use. Plus, it looks great and is well built.
