Sets a New Benchmark for Desktop Audio Interfaces

A desktop audio interface without compromise, the Neumann MT 48 U boasts off-the-charts specs and includes truckloads of studio-friendly features. For starters, the MT 48 U is the only interface optimized for Neumann's renowned studio microphones and their outstanding KH series studio monitors and NDH series headphones. Beyond that, two premium-quality mic/line preamps, class-leading AD/DA, and enough I/O for a wide range of applications ensure pro-level sound quality and easy studio integration. You also get cutting-edge onboard DSP effects with flexible routing, plus an easy-to-read touchscreen for intuitive operation. The MT 48 U not only gives you a pristine signal chain with zero bottlenecks, but it also supplies you with the state-of-the-art features you need to craft inspiring recordings. The Neumann name is as legendary as it gets in the studio world, and the MT 48 U gives you everything you'd expect from an audio interface sporting the famous Neumann logo.

Note: For Dante operation, Neumann provides an alternative Dante firmware free of charge. In addition, an 8x8 or 64x64 I/O Dante channel license is required, which must be purchased from Audinate. Please contact your Sweetwater Sales Engineer with any questions.

Delivers reference-class sound quality

The MT 48 U is the first interface in its class to have the ability to capture the full dynamic range of Neumann's acclaimed microphones, and it's optimized especially for the company's KH series studio monitors and NDH series headphones. This USB-C audio interface's high-precision AD converters yield a jaw-dropping dynamic range of 136dB, and its low-noise mic preamps supply up to 78dB of gain. Crystal-clear analog circuitry, state-of-the-art AD/DA, superb onboard headphone amplifiers — the MT 48 U sets a new benchmark for desktop audio interfaces.

Enough I/O for any application

No matter what type of project you're working on, the Neumann MT 48 U can handle it. Its two mic/line preamps deliver enough juice to accommodate any gain-hungry microphone, and its two line/instrument inputs yield true reference-quality sound. You also get four analog outputs for your studio monitors and patching in outboard gear, plus two excellent-sounding headphone outputs. Need more I/O? No problem. The MT 48 U supports ADAT, S/PDIF, Dante, and AES67 digital expansion. You also get onboard MIDI I/O (adapter required, sold separately).

Flexible built-in DSP and intuitive touchscreen control

The MT 48 U includes built-in DSP, providing you with a fully parametric 4-band EQ, a feature-rich dynamics processor for each channel, and a studio-quality reverb. You can control four separate monitor mixes — with effects — directly from the unit's intuitive touchscreen. Moreover, you can use the MT 48 U's DSP for monitoring only, print the effects while you're recording, or do both simultaneously via the unit's Direct Output Technology. Here at Sweetwater, we appreciate that the MT 48 U allows you to create an unprocessed backup during tracking. After all, accidents do happen! With the MT 48 U, you'll never lose a stellar performance because of an unfortunate EQ snafu.

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

My Experience with the MT 48
I've been using the MT 48 for several months. It has improved my workflow, given me better recordings, and enables me to hear my mixes more clearly.

Some reviews have complained about how hot it gets. My experience is that it gets warm, but not extremely so.

Booting up takes about one minute. This is certainly longer than any other interface I've used, but hasn't caused any problem with my workflow.

The responsiveness of the touchscreen is fine. I believe the firmware updates fixed earlier issues. I find myself using the touch screen over the remote controller accessible on the computer.

The sonic quality is simply superb.

One of the best features is "Snapshots," user-defined settings for different functions. I have a setting for each of my tasks: recording stereo guitar, recording vocals, mixing on headphones, mixing on speakers, and so on. I have one setting for "Standby" which mutes everything and dims all the indicator lights. Changing from one setting to another is quick and simple. With snapshots, I don't worry about a live microphone during playback or other such mishaps. When recording someone else, I can switch from one mode to another quickly and without disengaging with the talent.

Yes, it's expensive, but for me it has been absolutely worth it.

A word for Sweetwater's incredible customer support. The first unit had a minor issue with the jog wheel and Sweetwater immediately sent me a replacement. Then, I had some trouble installing the software and Dylan walked me through every step. You just don't see this level of customer support many places.
