Time-synced Modulation Madness

With four independent modulation effects sections synced in time, the Electro-Harmonix Mod Rex Polyrhythmic Modulator pedal offers new ways to add dimension and motion to your sounds. Whether you play electric guitar, bass, synthesizer, or another electronic instrument, Mod Rex packs a ton of creative potential. True stereo operation allows you to craft expansive panning effects. Nine different note-length choices allow you to dial in polyrhythmic effects. And with the ability to control its tempo via the Tempo knob, the Tap tempo footswitch, the expression input, or via MIDI clock, the Electro-Harmonix Mod Rex Polyrhythmic Modulator pedal is ready to integrate into any music production environment.

Seven vibrant effects in total

The Mod Rex pedal packs four individual effects sections, each with their own time settings. The Mod section offers up classic vibrato, flanger, chorus, or phaser effects. The Trem section provides tremolo, and the Pan section creates stereo panning effects. The Filter section features a modulated filter with selectable lowpass, highpass, or bandpass operation.

Create complex modulation effects with polyrhythmic LFOs

Each section on the Mod Rex pedal has its own LFO with four selectable waveforms. Modulating different sections with different waveshapes can reward you with exciting sonic textures, and that's just the start. Because each section can be set to one of nine different time subdivisions (from whole notes to 16th notes), you can create polyrhythmic modulation effects simply by selecting different time divisions for each section.

Extensive MIDI capabilities

One reason synthsists at Sweetwater like the Mod Rex Polyrhythmic Modulator pedal is its comprehensive MIDI support. Every parameter on the Mod Rex can be controlled via CC messages, making it a great output effects processor for your DAW setup or live electronic performance rig.

Electro-Harmonix Mod Rex Features:

  • Modulation effects pedal for guitar, bass, and synthesizers
  • Full stereo input and output
  • Mod section features vibrato, flanger, chorus, and phaser effects
  • Trem section delivers classic tremolo effects with depth control
  • Pan section creates animated panning effects, even from a mono input source
  • Filter section allows you to modulate a filter with selectable lowpass, highpass, and bandpass filter modes
  • Each section can be individually modulated by its own LFO, with 4 LFO waveshapes to choose from
  • 9 different selectable time divisions for each section
  • Save and recall up to 100 presets
  • Control tempo via knob, footswitch, external switch or expression pedal, or MIDI clock
  • Comprehensive MIDI implementation — any parameter can be controlled by MIDI CC messages
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items

Reviews

This is way to much fun
This pedal is an amazing unit. And fun. It's easier to use than I originally thought. Very user friendly.i made a stereo pedal board so I can take full advantage of this pedals potential.

Wow !
Amazing FAZZ shifting, amazing CHORUS overall build quality amazing it's a great pedal. I'm having a lot of fun using it would recommend it to anybody while worth the price.

Fun!
EHX knows how to make a fun pedal. I used a freeze pedal to feed this and within minutes I was able to get a 9/8 pattern going, talk about some crazy texture... or slow it down to get a rhythm thing going. On the downside, the individual effects are basic but that's ok since there a four to build with.

If all you do is straight up blues or rock then you won't use this, and why are you even looking, but if you were drawn to this pedal go for it.

Awesome Pedal
Within an hour of sitting down with this, I had all of the basic effects (chorus, flange, vibrato, and trem) dialed in to rival some of my favorite standalone pedals in each category. From there, I was able to find everything from slow swells to various ambient tones to spacey liquid type sounds. This pedal is a blast to work with and sounds fantastic for the more bread and butter mod tones. My biggest issues were that the tap tempo was a bit wonky and that EHX did not include a desicated on/off switch for each effect (you have to disable them using the subdivision knobs). Neither is a big deal really, and overall I think this is a steal for the price conaidering the prices of pedals these days. This is a great product!
EHX Mod Rex Pedal
This pedal will work in some scenarios but, in my personal experience, it hasn't worked like I expected.
