A Jazzy 4-string Packed with Cutting Clarity

Designed to Marcus Miller’s own tone and performance preferences, the Sire V8 from Sweetwater is a pro-level 4-string ready to take on both the studio and the concert stage! Exceptionally stable, roasted hard maple is utilized for both the neck and fingerboard, which is then smoothed over on the fingerboard edges for a fast, slick feel. Looking to cop some of Marcus’ signature cutting slap tone? The V8’s lightweight swamp ash body is loaded with dual Marcus Super-J Revolution pickups for deep lows, growling midrange, and perfect note-to-note clarity. As if that wasn’t enough, the Heritage-3 preamp’s 3-band EQ and mid control arm you with studio-level tone shaping. Even the hardware has been fine-tuned to Marcus’ taste — a Marcus Heavymass II bridge and Sire Premium open gear tuners ensure that your setup remains rock-solid, no matter how hard you push it.

Heritage-3 preamp system unlocks unlimited sonic potential

No matter what styles of music you play, you'll surely appreciate the Marcus Miller V8’s amazing tonal range! It's equipped with a Heritage-3 active/passive preamp system, allowing you to get as surgical with your tone as you like. Leave it in passive mode and you'll have control over master volume and master tone, as well as a pickup blend control for dialing in the perfect balance of thump and bark. Engage active mode and you're rewarded with three bands of EQ, with a sweepable midrange that makes it easy to cement your place in the mix.

Heavy-duty Marcus Heavymass II Bridge

While often overlooked, the bridge is a key component in getting the most out of your 4-string’s tone. Per Marcus’ own preferences, the bridge in the V8 has been upgraded to a robust Marcus Heavymass II bridge that drastically increases string-to-body vibration. How does that impact your tone? The Marcus Heavymass II bridge maximizes sustain, improves your note-to-note clarity, and adds just a bit more punch when thumping out your favorite lines.

A neck that plays like a dream

Looking for a neck with pro-level performance? The roasted hard maple neck and fingerboard on the Marcus Miller V8 ensures top-tier feel, tone, and response across the V8’s entire range! Roasting involves a special kiln-drying process that removes any leftover impurities in the wood that can have a subtle effect on its resonance and overall tone. It also increases the strength and stability of the wood, making it less susceptible to humidity. Best of all, the V8 boasts smooth rolled fingerboard edges that allow your hands to slide up and down the neck without a drag.

  • Lightweight swamp ash body
  • Exceptionally stable, roasted hard maple neck and fingerboard with smooth rolled edges

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

Sire V8 Natural
I received this Bass back in October of 2023 and have been using it non-stop ever since. I cannot say enough about the quality of the Bass. Such an amazing value for the money. In this price range I played a number of Fenders and other brands but nothing came close to the sound and quality of build of this Sire.
I use it mainly for studio work so quiet electronics is a must and this bass delivers that, even with the active EQ engaged. no noise, no hum. It requires (2) 9 volts (supplied) for the active EQ but they are easy to swap as they just slide into a drop out bin. No wired connection to snap on like a normal 9 volt.
It is a very solid, somewhat heavy though well-balanced bass. The roasted maple neck and nicely rolled fret edges are spectacular and make the bass feel like it's been played for years right out of the box. The natural Swamp Ash body is a real stand out.
With the active EQ, it has a remarkable range of tone which allows it to fit in the pocket of any style music. The large array of control knobs seems a bit daunting at first, but SIRE has a downloadable PDF the clearly explains all the controls.
The bass arrived with the action and intonation set perfectly and the customer service from Sweetwater was top notch as usual.
Great bass!
I was completely unfamiliar with Sire prior to this purchase. I had a MiM jazz bass a number of years ago and loved it, but I gave it to my nephew and switched to a light weight modern five string. I started missing my old jazz, so I began researching. I couldn't believe the features of this bass for the price, so I talked to my Sweetwater rep Jonah, and he backed up the positive things I had read. I put my order in and waited for the bass to come back in stock. It arrived sooner than I expected - I waited the mandatory 24 hours before opening the box, then started playing. I stopped long enough to tweak the action to my liking, then kept on going.
I love playing this bass! It feels natural, the neck is fantastic, and the whole bass resonates freely. The pickups don't hum, and the tone is phenomenal (both active and passive). It is pretty heavy, but I have no trouble playing for a couple of hours at a time and I just have a cheap thin strap. I can't say enough good things about this bass - it is a great bass for the money.
Music background: I’ve been playing guitar and bass for 40 years in bands and for church.
Sounds
I love the way this Four string sounds ! The clarity it has !
I'm going to purchase one . I need this bass on my arsenal.
