Coverts -10dBV to +4dBu

In today's pro audio world, we often find ourselves in the situation of connecting a low volume, -10dBV output — a cassette deck, a CD player, or a synthesizer — to a +4dBu input, such as a mixer or an audio interface. Incorrectly matching levels between gear can result in volumes that are too low, as well as an increased noise floor. The 2-channel Morley Line Level Shifter changes between unbalanced and balanced lines as needed, converting between -10dBV and +4dBu to facilitate the connection to virtually any type of gear you'll encounter. It also breaks ground-loop hum and converts between balanced and unbalanced connections. At Sweetwater, we appreciate handy devices like the Line Level Shifter. Every serious studio or live rig should have one!

Note: The Morley Line Shifter isn’t intended for use with mic- and instrument-level signals or powered speaker lines.

Morley Line Level Shifter Features:

  • Completely passive design requires no external power
  • Switches back and forth between -10dBV and +4dBu
  • Breaks ground loops safely while leaving all signal grounds intact
  • Converts automatically between balanced and unbalanced lines

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Excellent interface building block for studio or stage

In Q1'22 I designed and built a flexible patch bay for my studio pedal menagerie. It gives me instant signal chain creations and is equipped to send all signals running on long patches around my studio balanced. The last thing to add was an instrument to line level shift up and back function so the instrument level patchbay could be interfaced with all racked (line level) FX loop and effects hardware.

It is extremely quiet and will be integrated into my patch bay as a permanent patchable member in the coming days :)

Excellent no frills passive stereo DI, step up/down transformer, parallel XLR/TRS jacks for versatility

This used to be the discontinued Ebtech LLS 2 2-channel Line Level Shifter — exact same unit from the same manufacturer (Morley owns Ebtech).

The only difference is that the Morley now has XLRs in parallel with the TRS jacks eliminating the need for adapter cables if your source requires 3-pin.

No-frills, extra jacks, foldback etc. This does exactly what it says. As before, it can be used to step up or down depending on your need.

The strength or weakness in any transformer is how good it sound and the way to check that is the low bass — inferior transformers wimp out. Your ears will hear the difference. Anyway, with the Morley MLLS 2, kick drums from electronic sets are deep and solid; keyboard low notes equally so. This can be used as an electric bass or iPad DI if you like. Shielding is great and these are dead quiet.

The only weakness is that it's passive which limits its output. Some instruments and sources require a hotter level only attainable with an active DI and there's just no getting around that.

Otherwise, I have acquired a number of passive DI boxes, some with boutique transformers (and prices to match) — this stands up to any of them and you get two independent channels to boot. If there's any cross-talk, I can't hear it.
