Featuring switchable phantom power, a pad switch, one-knob compressors, EQ, plenty of I/O, and LED metering, the MG16 can take on just about any task you throw at it. Utilizing many state-of-the-art features from Yamaha's high-end consoles, the MG16 is ready to work for you!

Yamaha MG16 Analog Mixer at a Glance:

D-PRE discrete Class-A mic preamps deliver clean and natural sound
One-knob compressors provide easy-to-use dynamics control
EQ and highpass filters allow for effective sound-shaping
High quality op-amp ensures transparent sound reproduction
D-PRE discrete Class-A mic preamps deliver clean and natural sound
Nobody wants to hear mics that are plugged into thin, distorted, or underpowered preamps. MG Series mixing consoles employ Yamaha's transparent D-PRE preamps, which provide more power with lower impedance, delivering natural-sounding bass and smooth highs. D-PREs simply sound good - without hyping any specific elements of your mix. The D-PRE's pure sound will ensure that you won't need to spend hours EQ-ing just to get a barely-acceptable sound, like you would with low-quality mic preamps.

One-knob compressors provide easy-to-use dynamics control

When you're in the midst of a live event, you don't have time to tweak a large number of complex outboard units. To resolve this issue, the Yamaha MG Series of analog mixers features simple, time-saving one-knob compressors. Simply twist a single rotary control and you can dial in livelier guitars, punchier basses, tighter drums, and well-defined vocals.

EQ and highpass filter allow for effective sound-shaping

Whether you're tweaking your sound to perfection or whether you're removing some unwanted frequencies, effective and powerful EQ is necessary for building a successful mix. Featuring equalizers on all mono channels, the Yamaha MG Series mixing consoles provide you with ample control over the tonal balance of your mix. Additionally, a highpass filter allows you to get rid of any mud that might be present in your mix by eliminating unwanted low-frequency noise.

High quality op-amp ensures transparent sound reproduction

Here at Sweetwater, we know that few things will kill tone as quickly as sub-par op-amps. The Yamaha MG Series utilizes new, high-quality MG01 op-amps, ensuring that your mix sounds its best. When designing these op-amps, Yamaha focused on sound quality, rather than prioritizing electrical design and efficiency. Yamaha has always strived to deliver the purest possible signal instead of imparting their "signature" to your sound, and the MG Series is no exception. You can count on a transparent, natural, and articulate sound when you mix through a MG Series analog mixer.

Yamaha MG16 Analog Mixer Features:
  • D-PRE mic preamps deliver clean, transparent, and natural sound
  • 3-band EQ on all mono channels for sound-shaping
  • 1-knob compressors provide straightforward dynamics control
  • Pad switch on mono inputs for managing loud sources
  • Metal chassis for durability
  • Rackmount kit included
Deliver a clean and professional-sounding mix with the Yamaha MG16 analog mixer!
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items

Great analog board
We are enjoying our Yamaha Analog Board for use with our drum kit mixing and volume control for our over full sound board.
Pleased
Bought this mixer for our church sanctuary. I"m still learning all the functions and fine tuning. I would recommend using high quality mains and monitors. Bought some cheap Black Friday speakers from GC should have known better looking to upgrade soon. The MG is a high quality piece of equipment and do yourself a favor and purchase some JBL or QSC if you don"t have good speaker. Sweetwater is the best customer service in the business. Nick Hammer who always helps us get exactly what we need and always checks to make sure everything is working properly is greatly appreciated. Thanks Sweetwater for your fantastic customer service.
Works for what I need and more
I use Yamaha mixers and have used them since around 2000. This is my 4th mixer from Yamaha and is exactly what I needed and expect from Yamaha. It is very simple to use and handles what I need it to do. I do not need a lot of the extras that you can get from Yamaha and other mixers. All my other Mixers still work and are great I just needed more inputs for some shows I booked this year. It is so simple and easy to use out of the box that it makes my life so much easier. I use these at Rodeo and outdoor events so these get exposed to the elements constantly. It is also the easiest to clean after each use. Even with all the dust and dirt it is exposed to, the faders still slide smoothly. Straight forward design and easy to follow signal path and adjustments. I am very happy with Yamaha Mixers and will continue to use and purchase them.

Perfect Analogue Mixer
We chose this mixer because of the number of inputs and number of aux sends. The multifunction (xlr or trs) inputs are a big help. Specifically chosen without effects because we wanted effects per channel and not overall. This unit is easy for volunteers to understand and adjust since it is used for a portable outside church service once a week.
This Yamaha replaces a more powerful Behringer X16 which needed a higher level of user.
Great unit, easy to use and understand.

Yamaha MG16 Mixer
This seems to be a really good bare bones mixer. It has no built in effects, and no analog-to-digital converter for direct recording (through USB/Firewire). So it's about as old-school as you are going to get. Because of that, it's not overly complicated to set up and run. The eight channels of one-knob compression are somewhat limited, but definitely effective against guitar players who start playing more aggressively the more they drink through the night (the same goes for singers). I run an external Lexicon MX400 effects unit, and bring both stereo channels from the MX400 back into channels 13/14 and 15/16 and it works excellent. That still leaves me with two more Aux channels to send out for monitor mixes, which works just fine for smaller bands (4 people).

I probably should have ordered the model with the analog-to-digital converter built in, so that we could record live mixes during shows. Instead I'm using a separate two channel Presonus Audiobox (which works great), but it's just one more thing to bring to a show.

I've never been a fan of built-in effects on mixers, as you only get one effect at a time, and it's the same on every input. The external MX400 gives me two mixes (with two effects per channel) so there's a lot more options. So because of my external effects unit, and bare-bones unit was just what I was looking for.

P.S. I didn't give it a 5.0 because the definition in the drop-down menu was "WOW, BLOWN AWAY!". Nope, just a great mixer.
